Oh yes quite true! Missiles are programmed all to either seek a fast flying aircraft high up or a infrared exhaust pointing horizontally and at high speed.
None of them will expect any target standing still near ground level like that, it is via radar view point seen as part of ground objects, not aircraft and will miss passing it. So low and slow moving near ground, when seen from radar is either a stationary or slow moving vehicle on the ground.
The exhaust facing ground, near ground level like that? How can the heat seeker warhead find anything? Slowly moving like that the heat seeker missiles also zoom past it got no fucking idea where is their targets!
But these russian jets are cheap to manufacture and are meant to be discarded after just a few years of service. Unlike western manufactured ones which can last decades.
The whole magic must come from 3D exhaust jet vectoring ability. Regardless models or actual planes.
This is the reason why American jets can not do as good. Russian got real full 3D vectoring exhausts, hence from Total STALL - aka no air speed against any aero-control surfaces (rudder + elevator + flap), it can still regain position control. American cannot do full 3D.

Normally the micro engines for models don't have the 3D jet vectoring, but it is possible the hobbyist did some crude modification to achieve it.
Someone made 3D printed version of this tiny one, but this WON'T SURVIVE the heat. And it is only AREA variable, seems still lack the X & Y axis
