The Ministry of Health Singapore estimates that one in two healthy Singaporeans aged 65 could become severely disabled in their lifetime and could require long-term care1. This could be your reality if you don't take care of your muscles now.

Take the 'stand-up test'2 now to check if you are at risk
Cross your arms and place them in front of your chest
Stand up from a seated position on one leg
Hold it for 3 seconds
Words of caution
  • Be careful not to strain or injure yourself.
  • Stop challenge immediately if your knees start to hurt.
  • Don't lean back to gain momentum or you may topple backwards.

There are other safer exercises to do for health without inconveniencing other road users. Cycling is not the only option nor the best option.

The only way to handle this is PAP style is to increase MediSave contributions now in anticipation of the disabled 65 year olds in the future.

Thank god. Two old fools plowed into pedestrains this month. The sooner they are disabled the better

Had those old fools had regular exercise those pedestrians would have been safe.

That chair exercise is far too easy for me I recommend trying this one. It's a far more challenging.

Climb steps and slopes, do squats and deadlifts if you're in a gym.

And if you cycle, stay off Sinkieland's roads and stop pretending to be Tour de France contestants.

Go to Malaysia and cycle on these roads.

I was a Tour de Singapore contestant.

Everytime I get to know a young chap I will tell him to take up cycling. He will appreciate it when older.

I agree that cycling is a good sport but when you meet those arrogant tour de France wannabe assholes on the road. They really bring a bad name to cyclists

Definitely. Sinkie roads are not suitable for cycling and drivers here treat slow and small vehicles as a nuisance and gets uptight, agitated and agravated by cyclist leading to clashes.

Sinkie roads are not well suited to cars because the Island is only 40km wide and 22km from top to bottom. There is hardly space to accelerate before you have to brake hard to avoid plunging into the sea.

It is also as flat as a pancake which makes it an ideal cycling country just like Holland.
