Whether Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will call a general election early - as soon as next year - will hinge on several factors, political observers said.
These include uncertainty over the economy, addressing concerns such as the cost of living and a perceived lack of social mobility, and whether the ruling People's Action Party (PAP) believes voters will take to the person the party has chosen as the country's next leader.
