actions of pla units, especially fighters patrolling the skies, radar units and navy ships patrolling scs bases indicate the exact opposite. they are egging for a fight, getting perilously close to u.s. surveilance units hoping for restraints to be unleashed. such playing chicken gamesmanship will inadvertently trigger tragic action and cause conflict to escalate. if it escalates to all out war prc would have foolishly squandered all their assets and young lives for nothing. these young turks have zero patience and can’t hold their shit. when shit hits the fan it’ll be very ugly. prc will collapse and pull every chink along with it for 69 generations.

Let's be very honest. Close you eyes and cast your mind back to just a few years ago. Whilst there were disputes between claimant states, was the SCS or "militarisation" or "freedom of navigation" ever, or even an issue? The Chinese are right. Whities are creating trouble out of nothing, as this world's number one troublemaker and shit stirrer has always been doing throughout their history and throughout all continents and all countries; from Central American to South American to the Middle Eastern to African to Eastern European and to Asian countries.

Paul Keating found whities' argument that China could block access to the SCS so mind-numbingly stupid and ludicrous that even he, as an ex-PM of Australia, a country that is a long-time and traditional lapdog of the US, dismissed whities' nonsense by stating the painfully obvious, i.e. that:

"Tillerson's claim that China's control of access to the waters would be a threat to 'the entire global economy' is simply ludicrous. No country would be more badly affected than China if it moved to impede navigation. On the other hand, Australia's prosperity and the security of the world would be devastated by war." The very opposite of what whities claim holds true. China needs to keep the South China Sea lines of communication open at all cost. This is even if it requires costly "militarisation"of the SCS, a war or a nuclear first strike on whities' homeland. Otherwise, it would be choked of its energy supplies coming through the SCS, economically strangled as its exports cannot make their way out of the SCS, and perpetually under threat of invasion as the SCS has been the traditional invasion routes by which China has been humiliated by whities.

We have seen whities strangling other countries with this blockade strategy. China will not allow it to happen. Hence, the Chinese "militarilisation" of the SCS ever since Clinton sent in the "Nimitz" and "Independence"(aircraft carriers) as well as other warships in 1996 as whities played their Taiwan card against China, and in the light of whities' continuing provocations of China.

So kudos to the Chinese (and Russians) who, through their actions, will guarantee peace in Asia, and in Asia's and the Russian's frontyard and backyard.

The Trump Administration Has Escalated Its Conflict with China Even Further. Here’s What Needs to Happen to Stay Out of War
James Stavridis, Time, October 10, 2018
Those preoccupied last week with concerns over the effect Justice Brett Kavanaughwould have on the Supreme Court for decades were actually, it turns out, being too near-sighted — as the Trump Administration made a move that could significantly affect an international relationship that will last centuries. In a little-noticed pivot, the Administration set up China as the major geopolitical opponent of the United States in no uncertain terms, led by a speech from Vice President Mike Pence. This change in position — not to be confused with the far more benign “Pacific Pivot” of the Obama Administration — has set off alarm bells ringing from Tokyo to Melbourne.

We are seeing China bursting with new power and political purpose in global economics (with the one-belt, one-road strategy); aggressive political strategies aimed at hold-out democratic enclaves like Hong Kong and Taiwan; deep cultural accomplishment (featuring a dynamic film industry and a powerful state-sponsored sports culture); a muscular control over international Chinese figures (arresting the head of Interpol and a globally famous film star); and a far more assertive approach in international organizations (including creating the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank). The recent reports of China’s inclusion of intelligence devices into internationally sourced motherboards is a dramatic indicator of their intent to increase their control of global cyber supply chain — the real Silk Road of the 21st century. And having spent much of my long naval career in the Pacific, it is fascinating to watch China transform from the third-rate naval power of a couple of decades ago to a robust, highly capable maritime foe — one that has integrated offensive cyber warfare into their training and readiness far more effectively than the United States.

All of this means that it is far past time for the United States to develop a coherent and effective strategy to face the rise of China. We’ve tried several approaches in the past. Benign neglect (“it will all just work out if we can just get along”) failed. So did positive engagement, which some have labeled “Panda hugging” and included showing a willingness to accept a variety of unbalanced practices in trade and intellectual property. And the far more assertive and aggressive posture laid out in Vice President Pence’s speech will not work either. All of these approaches are too short-term.

I assure you that China is thinking about the 300-year future of their nation. They have tactical lines of effort flowing into mid-century. Meanwhile, in the Pentagon, people get excited about delivering a Future Year Defense Plan, which looks out five years. That’s not good enough. If we are going to deal with an emerging Chinese macro-competition in this century — something the Trump Administration is correctly signaling we will face — now is the time to lay out a true 21st-century strategy for China.

So, what should we do? What does a real strategic plan look like?
To start, we should recognize the real possibility that we could end up in a global war with China if we do not handle this account with care. A recent study of historical cases wherein rising powers have confronted established powers over 2,500 years of history showed that, in the vast majority of cases, a war ensured. Let’s set an overarching goal of a peaceful, if occasionally contentious, co-existence. We should confront where we must — such as China’s land-grab in the South China Sea, their theft of intellectual property and deeply unfair trade practices. But we should also cooperate where we can, including on North Korea, reconstructing Syria, medical diplomacy, disaster relief, climate change, the Arctic (where China has a surprising level of interest) and a host of other international issues.
Still, we must also maintain our (slight) technological edge, especially in the cyber realm. If we do end up with a military confrontation with China, it will likely not be a geographic fight with tanks and combat brigades. Instead, it will exist primarily in the cyber world, and secondarily at sea and in the air, even very possibly in space. We have a slight edge now in cyber security, quantum computing, artificial intelligence and machine learning, but it is eroding. Maintaining it will require a concerted public-private partnership; unfortunately, the recent Google decision to pull out of the Maven artificial intelligence project, for example, does not bode well for this. We must redouble our efforts at creating a Silicon Valley–Pentagon strategic axis on research and development.
Beyond our two nations, though, it is hard to overstate the potential geopolitical importance of India, especially if coupled with Japan. With those two powerful democracies working alongside us, the chances are far higher of creating a counterbalance to a rising China. While we are strongly engaged with Japan (including a mutual defense treaty), our ties with India are more tenuous and fraught, following a lengthy history of mistrust. Building a strong, coherent relationship with India — potentially the dominant nation of the 22nd century — is critical.
Lastly, our strategic approach must become accepting of the choices China makes — and not allow the relationship to be driven by emotion or ideology. The best book on leadership ever written may be The Godfather by Mario Puzo, in which again and again we see that we must not make the mistake of hating our enemies — in the end, it only clouds our judgment. China will make its own choices about domestic governance and how its society is structured. America must accept that it can only change so much.
We need a pragmatic relationship with China that is transactional and occasionally confrontational but ultimately avoids the big war. Creating that connection will be a key driver of how this turbulent century — and those beyond it — will unfold.

this piece is more incisive with prc's true intentions and ambitions and has a more moderate tone. i'm in 69% agreement, especially comments in bold. what do you think?

I agree it's a little more balanced and not the usual typical redneckish write-ups from both the liberal and conservative camps of the US media especially when it comes to China and Russia. But it still does suffer from purveying falsehoods, and adopting a patronising expectation that China must comply with the US' view of the world, as well as his adoption of the condescending attitude typical of whities with their "talk down" approach towards all countries, including the leaders of these countries.

I don't believe there can be a limited war as he suggests. If one does break out, it will be a total war engulfing the world where nuclear weapons will be used.

Though patronising, he is right in that whities must "accept[ing]...the choices China makes". Not just China, but all countries especially since whities' have zero moral authority to preach about "democracy", "human rights", etc since they finance, support and prop up brutal dictators, chaos, death, destruction, the killing of innocent children (see Madeline Allbright's "was it worth it" video below) around the world when it serves them to do so. The latest is Two-minute Trump's profession of "love" for Kim Jong Un when in the past and barely few months ago, KJU was demonised by whities as a brutal dictator who was involved in, responsible for and who oversaw "extrajudicial killings, forced labor, torture, prolonged arbitrary detention, rape, forced abortions and other sexual violence", etc.

The long term solution for a peaceful world is to live and let live and embrace China's world's vision of "working together to forge a new partnership of win-win cooperation and create[ing] a community of shared future for mankind". I am realistic enough though to know this will not happen before the decline or destruction of the US. This is since whities' have a propensity for confrontation, domination, violence as well as whities' need for wars and constant conflicts to support their economy and economic growth.

I thought I should list out some of the continuing and blatant falsehoods (in the author's write up) aimed at demonising China. A sample (three) of these falsehoods, needless to say, pales in comparison to whities' blatant lie before the world that Saddam Hussein had "weapons of mass destruction" which whities then used as a pretext to sow chaos, kill and destroy a fully functioning country.

"China’s inclusion of intelligence devices into internationally sourced motherboards..."
This is untrue. Super Micro (Chinese company supplying these motherboards) and whities very own companies like Apple and Amazon have already dismissed this as false. Even the US Department of Homeland Security has said as much.
"Theft of intellectual property..."
These are private and commercial "willing buyer, willing seller" agreements between commercial companies. They are not signed with China as a country. If US companies find the terms objectionable and not to their favour, liking or advantage, all they have to do is not agree to them. There is no deal then. You can't possibly sign a deal, shakes hands and enjoy the profits and good life that accrue and come from these deals and then whinge about having been "arm-twisted", "cheated", "stolen from", etc. Again, these are commercial deals between companies. They are not political deals between countries. Any commercial disputes should be settled in court, not in the political arena.
"China’s land-grab in the South China Sea..."
There's no land grab. On the basis of historical ownership since they were an ancient maritime power travelling the seas and staking out claims, as the Europeans did a few thousand years later after they emerge from their caves, this belongs to China. It's no different to the Falklands belonging to the British despite it being 12,789 km from England and only 1,521km from Argentina. If historical claims are dismissed and cannot serve as the basis of claims to ownership, it will establish a precedent where whities themselves will be placed in the perilous position of having to give up the ownership of "their" countries - the US, Canada, Australia, NZ, etc.

Chinese desire for 'blood beads' and (poisonous) skin cream threatening the existence of Myanmar's elephants
7.30 BY SOUTH-EAST ASIA CORRESPONDENT LIAM COCHRANE

The online trader wants his customers to know the elephant was skinned quickly, with blood still fresh in its veins.

He holds two layers of dried, hardened fat in front of a light to show off the rich blood-red colour, circles marked for where he will cut spheres and turn them into beads for a bracelet.

"That's why they try to skin the elephant as soon as it falls down," Aung Myo Chit, country coordinator at the Smithsonian Institution in Myanmar, told 7.30.

"Because after you wait one or two days, it will drop the colour ... the concentration of blood will reduce.

"One female elephant was skinned before she died."

This trade in elephant skin — for beads, bogus cures and skin products — was first detected just a few years ago. It has conservationists worried.

"The new skin trade is so serious that if it's left unchecked, Myanmar's elephants could disappear by 2030," Christy Williams, country director at World Wildlife Fund said.

Hunting for ivory targets the approximately 10 per cent of male elephant with tusks, but this new skin trade puts every single elephant in the poachers' gun sights.

"So that was the game changer for us," Mr Williams said. "Basically any living elephant in the wild was fair game."

The wider threat posed by the skin poachers was brought home powerfully in May last year, when a whole family of elephants was killed in Myanmar's Ayerawaddy region.

In all 25 males, females and calves were slaughtered, their blood turning the river red.

"I just think that what we do to animals like elephants, dolphins, whales or great apes is genocide," Mr Williams said.

From the forests of Myanmar, the illicit elephant skin is smuggled towards China, either via Thailand and Laos or through the notorious border town wildlife market of Mong La.

"From our interviews with the shopkeepers, 90 per cent of the consumers are Chinese," said Mr Williams.

Much of the elephant skin ends up for sale online.

The conservation group Elephant Family found photos of the trader showing off his blood-red products last month and also tracked down the origin of the beads.

While carved bead bracelets known as wenwan have long been traditional items of jewellery in China, the use of elephant skin was virtually unheard of until 2014, when a single online trader known as Jaz developed a new product.

According to an investigation by Elephant Family, Jaz boasted of his exploits.

"I invented the elephant skin beads," Jaz is reported to have said.

"I even go to Myanmar and source the raw material myself."

Jaz also pioneered the online trade of powdered elephant skin being sold as a cure for stomach aches and mixed into lotion for skin conditions.

ABC NEWS
Aung Myo Chit said that these products have no proven medicinal value, and could actually be harmful to the consumer.

Poachers use homemade guns and arrows tipped with strong poison to bring down the elephant in a slow, excruciating death.

"Two or three days later, the poison has spread to the whole body, every inch of the skin has the poison," Aung Myo Chit said.

That poison is then being consumed or rubbed onto the skin of the customer.

Ranger power

PHOTO There are estimated to be only a couple of thousand of elephants left in the wild in Myanmar.
ABC NEWS
Conservationists say urgent action is needed to protect Myanmar's estimated 2,000 wild elephants.

This week saw the Illegal Wildlife Trade conference held in London. While safeguarding African elephants was a key topic, the emerging trade in Asian elephant skin was not a major agenda item.

Activists are trying to shift the conversation; they want the world to see elephant skin poaching as the new ivory.

"As a range state we are aware of the multiple threats faced by Asian elephants and are concerned that the skin issue will expand to all range states if not stopped," Ranjan Marasinghe, head of enforcement of the Department of Wildlife Conservation in Sri Lanka, told 7.30.

There have been some positive signs in Myanmar, with the Government strengthening the law this year, bringing in a mandatory minimum jail terms for poachers.

Fitting GPS collars to small numbers of elephants in poaching hotspots has allowed rangers to focus their patrols where they can be most effective.

But it has also shown the scale of the threat.

In the first year the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) collared elephants, half of them were killed.

Christy Williams of the WWF. Interviewed by 7.30, October 2018
PHOTO Christy Williams says more rangers are needed to protect Myanmar's elephants.
ABC NEWS
However Christy Williams believes Myanmar has a unique opportunity to protect its wildlife and create jobs.

The South-East Asian nation has a huge commercial timber sector, with thousands of staff and thousands of trained elephants working at state-run business logging firms.

But the glory days of Myanmar's teak trade are dwindling.

Mr Williams would like to see Myanmar take some of its timber workers and retrain them as forest rangers, and WWF is working on a ranger training facility to help make that a reality.

He cites results in Nepal as evidence the idea could work.

"Nepal's Chitwan National Park has celebrated five years of zero poaching of rhinos, [but] they have 1,600 staff, including 1,000 soldiers protecting the park," he said.

"[For] the whole of Myanmar's 40 protected areas there's 450 staff. We need more boots on the ground.

"If it's not checked now, it could easily spread to other parts of Asia, where there's no protection for Asian elephants, then you're really fighting to save the last few individuals."

Yang Kaili, popular Chinese live streamer, detained for 'disrespecting' national anthem
UPDATED YESTERDAY AT 10:11AM

VIDEO 0:33
Chinese live streamer Yan Kaili singing the national anthem
ABC NEWS
Chinese authorities have detained a major live-streaming celebrity for five days for "being disrespectful to the national anthem", according to Shanghai police.
Key points:
  • Mocking the national anthem can result in up to 15 days' jail time under Chinese law
  • Local media reported Yang Kaili had 44 million followers before she was banned
  • She has apologised and said "the anthem is sacred"
In a video on the live-streaming platform Huya, 20-year-old Yang Kaili was shown humming marching music before she started to recite the first line of the national anthem while waving her hands as if conducting an orchestra.
She then greeted her audience with: "Hello, good evening comrades."
Last year, China introduced a law mandating up to 15 days in police detention for those who mock the "March of the Volunteers" national anthem.
Shanghai police said Ms Yang "was disrespectful to the dignity of the national anthem and invited disgust among netizens".
"Live streaming sites are not outside the law — the law and moral standards similarly apply there," police said via their verified Weibo account.
PHOTO Popular Chinese live-streamer Yang Kaili apologised on Weibo for disrespecting the national anthem.
WEIBO: YANG KAILI

Local media reported that Ms Yang had about 44 million followers on Huya, which is similar to popular western site Twitch, before her account was taken down.
Ms Yang, who is also known as Li Ge, apologised last week in a Weibo post, vowing to stop live streaming, to conduct "self-rectification" and "seriously watch patriotic publicity films".
"I sincerely apologise for the fact that I did not sing the anthem seriously. The anthem is sacred and my behaviour hurt everyone's feelings," she said.
The arrest drew mixed reaction on social media, with many people commenting on whether Ms Yang deserved her punishment.
"How dare you joke about the national anthem, which seriously affects the social atmosphere and national dignity and all networks should directly block you without accepting any apology!" one Weibo user said.
Others defended her, with one user saying "you will have to get your eyes to well up with tears when you sing it every time in the future" [to show your patriotism].
Meet the 'stream queens'

China's social media stars have the world's largest audience at their disposal, and the business is now more lucrative than the country's film industry.
In recent years, some football fans in Hong Kong, a former British colony returned to Chinese rule in 1997, have booed the Chinese national anthem at matches in protest against what some in the city see as Beijing's growing reach in its affairs.
The national anthem law also covers the territories of Hong Kong and Macau.
Live streaming is one part of the huge internet celebrity phenomenon in China, with millions tuning in to watch their stars do everything from singing and playing games to eating and partaking in crazy challenges.
According to a 2017 Renmin University report, internet stardom is now the most sought-after career prospect for young Chinese people born after 1995.
The arrest comes shortly after the disappearance of one of the biggest stars in China, Fan Bingbing, who re-emerged earlier this month after months of suspected detainment over tax evasion.

Nothing to do with "cheating", "conniving" or "honour", etc. Building artificial islands may be something of a huge relevation to you but they are nothing new. They have been built since ancient times; from the ones found in ancient Egypt to the Stilt crannogs of Scotland and Ireland to Tenochtitlan, the Aztec predecessor of current day Mexico City to Dejima in the bay of Nagasaki, Japan. Even whities tried to build artificial islands (Venetian Islands, Florida) but eventually failed.

"Modern" artificial islands can be found in Qatar, UAE, Netherlands and Japan amongst those many that have been constructed. They are built around the world by a whole lot of countries, including Willingdon Islands and a few others built by your Indian forefathers in India.

How do you think the islands (below) in Dubai came about? Through the work of nature?

america is still 6.9 times more powerful as a reigning superpower.

What military edge USA have in Somalia over a fucking bunch of fishermen and goat herders?
100,000 to 1?
And in Somalia a bunch of fishermen and goat herders fucking the shit out of USA and chasing them out with AKs and rpgs

What military edge USA got in Iraq over Sadr?
1,000 to 1?
In Iraq losing out to Sadr who had 1000 times less firepower than USA.
Having no more than AKs and rpgs.

Did USA win in Syria?
What was the military edge USA have over a bunch of separate goat herders in Afghan? Do not even need the entire fucking country of Afghan.
10,000 to 1 ?
I finished reading “the Outpost” by Jake Tapper. How a bunch of goat herders in Afghan with AKs and rpgs and IEDs (because they do not have billion dollar industry to make bombs like USA, can only make bombs in backyard on a DIY basis) taking out USA brave men despite they having 155 howizters , 120 mm mortars , Ma Deuces, A-10s, properly build bombs, B52s and helicopter gunships , AC-130 Spectre Gunships and billions of dollars backing them and not so good in protecting them.
If USA fought bravely with massive firepower behind them, then what about the goat herders with only AKs and RPGs fighting against USA knowing they fighting against 155 howizters , 120 mm mortars , Ma Deuces, A-10s, properly build bombs, B52s and helicopter gunships , AC-130 Spectre Gunships ?
Even more fucking brave is the least I can say of the Afghans goat herders. Who were untrained knowing only how to herd goats unlike the USA special forces who went through countless hours and weeks and months learning how to kill and kill.
Yet who won? And who left Afghan?
Maybe USA army should consider making their fighting folks do a course in goat herding . As who knows, maybe herding goats might be better to build up fighting skills.

USA got fucked when USA tried that in Afghan . Against a bunch of tribesmen when USA had 1000 the firepower over them. And after a trillion of dollars what have USA got to show in Afghan?
Why did the United States of America fail to win the war in Afghanistan even after 17 years? Why does the lone superpower fail to defeat a group of goat herders?
And what about Vietnam?
What ws the military edge USA had over Vietnam and China who supported Vietnam with boots on the ground.
About 100 or more to 1?
Firepower of USA which included B52s, battleships, Spooky gunships? Helicopter gunships and who threw everything into fighting Viets including toilet bowls?

Mylai rings a bell? A moment to be proud of ? Among many other moments like Mylai.
Help to boost up the numbers for body counts! Small or big, young or old, still bodies to be counted!

USA fought with gunships, battleships, fighter planes from carriers, B52s, massive firepower and total air superiority, against pajamas clad fighters with flip flops from used truck tyres firing AKs and RPGs.
And with courage as they fought for freedom and their land whereas USA fought to enshrine corrupt dictators.
You proud of that?
I wish you joy in such kind of pride.
This was the end result.
You remember this ? Or too painful?

USA forget Korea when she was 100 times stronger and 100 times more fire power than China?
And what happened then?
In Korea where USA firepower was at least 100 times more than China and China industrial might was much less than sub Sahara Africa , the Chinese whacked USA and the UN combined that they had to flee south of the Parallel as demanded by China.

Just what the fuck is USA?
Nothing but a stinking bully with a big stick and with a bully mentality at heart.
In other words, USA is a fucking COWARD!
And proven clearly to lose to untrained goat herders in Afghan and about to be kicked out from there and untrained fishermen /goat herders in Somalia and already kicked out from there.
Got beaten and chased out down south of the parallel in Korea and totally out of Vietnam .
