The images of basketballers behaving badly broadcast across the world stand in stark contrast to the parting gift offered by the Japanese national football squad, which was eliminated from the World Cup on Tuesday.
While the Boomers and Philippines made headlines for all the wrong reason with amassive on court brawl before the game was abandoned, Japan's footballers were making waves on social media for leaving their change rooms spotless and offering a thank-you note after their gut-wrenching defeat at the hands of Belgium.
The photo from the change room showed the team not only took everything it brought with them, but they also appeared to have cleaned up.
But it was not only the players showing respect to their hosts. Images and videos appeared of Japanese fans cleaning up in the grandstands despite the loss to Belgium.
The loss meant the final Asian Football Conference team in the cup bowed out, but not before the team literally bowed to its thousands of heartbroken fans who saw a two-goal lead evaporate late in the match.
Japanese fans are well known for their politeness and are regularly photographed cleaning up after matches.
Several photos also appeared on social media of fans cleaning up the grandstands after Japan's victory over Colombia in the group stages of the tournament.
