MONEYMAX PAWN SHOP SOLD ME FAKE ROLEX WATCH, REFUSED TO REFUND & DARED ME TO REPORT POLICE

Dear friends the previous post got deleted accidentally. Sorry! Please help share and spread the word Thank you!!

I’m loss for words and disappointed with Money Max’s service. We redeemed a Rolex Submariner Hulk from Money Max(Rivervale Plaza Outlet) on the 30th of Oct, roughly at 730pm. Asked the staff if we could view the watch first before redeeming because we bought over the pawn ticket.

As we are considered the 3rd party. Staff reply was “No. You have to redeem it first. And you can hug IT and sleep with it for the whole night” referring to the Hulk. Before redeeming we asked her whether it was authentic OR NOT. She said, she doesnt know. Fine. We were skeptical about redeeming it but still we went ahead because HELLO ITS MONEY MAX ITS A REPUTABLE COMPANY LEH!!!!! So after redeeming we went to look for a friend who is specialize in watches and after much inspection at it he said we got duped, Its fake.

Firstly, if its fake why would Money max let the owner pawn it and even give him the money??? The owner pawned it for 6,000$SGD. Its 6000$ not 6$. I didn’t know a fake watch can be valued at 6000$.

Secondly, we asked since it was less than 12 hours can we pawn back the watch? They say impossible cause theres no valuer to inspect the watch. Less than 12 hours, the pawn ticket serial number matches the one with the watch STILL NEED INSPECT MEH?

Thirdly, we demanded to speak to the in charge. We told her we are going to report this matter to the police and she told us to go ahead, at the end of the day we confirm lugi not her. K can. She still told us to try pawning the watch at other outlet as her rivervale plaza’s outlet only take in gold & NO WATCHES. And so we went to other MM outlet and the valuer refuse to take in the watch stating that the piece DO NOT LOOK AUTHENTIC. We showed him the receipt and tallied the serial number and he confirmed that both the serial number on the watch and the receipt is the same and is also puzzled why did the rivervale plaza outlet let us took out a NON authentic watch, as i believe that the staffs there were aware that the watch was NON authentic as she said as I mentioned above that she said she do not know if the watch is authentic or not.

See the thing now is, MM’s policy is you get back what you pawned. But I’m confused to HOW CAN SUCH A REPUTABLE COMPANY ACCEPT A NON AUTHENTIC WATCH? And if Money Max checked thoroughly they would not have taken in this watch, and none of this would have happened & we wouldnt have to go through all the troubles of verifying and making a police report. Policy is use mouth say one theres no black & white and even if there is I HAVE NOT SEEN IT. All I know is that the watch I redeemed from Money Max is NON authentic and the company refuse to be responsible.

By the way, there’s no law in Singapore which state that buying a pawn ticket is illegal. WE DO NOT KNOW THE OWNER. This post is to let others know that even such a reputable company cannot differentiate AUTHENTIC AND NON AUTHENTIC. Such a disappointment. Money max has failed terribly at its service.

After visiting the police station and CASE Ive finally come to a conclusion to why the manager told us to go ahead with the report its because basically theres nothing CASE & SPF can do.

We know every company has their own policy but are you being fair to your consumers? How can you not check the authencity of the watch beforehand? This is so unethical for such a big company to make this kind of mistake.

We are posting this to warn the people & to seek advice on what we should proceed on this case.

Just to clarify that the stated name in the statement, Seamus was not the one that cheated me. He’s a good friend of mine he got cheated as well.

Unemployed man pawned fake branded watches to cheat pawnshops

SINGAPORE - Together with two conspirators, a man cheated pawnshops of nearly $100,000 earlier this year by pawning them counterfeit timepeices that were passed off as genuine Audermars Piguet watches.

Fong Kheng Yue, 44, then received about $10,000 from his alleged accomplice, who gave him the fake Audemars Piguet watches.

On Tuesday, Fong, who is unemployed, was jailed for 18 months after admitting to three of eight charges of abetment by conspiracy to cheat Heng Seng Pawnshop, Moneymax Pawnshop and Soon Yi Pawnshop between Jan 11 and Feb 1 this year. The total amount involved in the eight charges is $98,000.

Cases against two others, Lam Chan Pieu, 30, and Chen Zhiwei, 33, are pending.

A district court heard that early this year, Lam allegedly told Fong that he had some counterfeit watches which could be pawned as authentic Audemars Piguet watches.

The watches, kept in boxes, were accompanied by fraudulent certificates of authenticity.

Fong agreed to the plan as it was a "good and quick way to earn money".

As part of the conspiracy, he would keep 10 per cent of the proceeds on the pledge, and deliver the remaining sum to Lam.

As the pawnshops targeted required guarantors, Lam would either stand as the guarantor himself, contact Chen to stand as guarantor or provide Fong with identity cards of individuals to use when pledging the watches.

On Jan 11, Fong deceived Heng Seng Pawnshop Company at Lorong 6 Toa Payoh into believing that the fake watch pledged was an authentic Audemars Piguet, and induced the pawnshop to deliver $13,000 to him.

Two days later, he and Chen entered Moneymax Pawnshop at Tampines Central 1 and conned the shop into delivering $15,000 to Fong.

Fong went to Soon Yi Pawnshop in Woodlands Street 31 on Feb 1 and got away with $14,000 after pledging the fake watch.

Fong, who received about $10,000 for his involvement in the conspiracy, was arrested three days later at Changi Airport, a day after a Valuemax Pawnshop appraiser lodged a police report.

He could have been jailed for up to 10 years and fined on each charge.

A luxury watch is for the aficionado (ditto for all luxury branded consumer goods and cars). Typically, a watch aficionado would be one who is able to afford expensive watches, having arrived at a certain station in life. The problem arises when one is not able to afford and yet want to be an aficionado. Hence the market for counterfeit. Those who see the watch as a mere functional item is not the issue here. For them and the ah gong or ah ma you mentioned, a Casio or a Timex would do the job admirably. My firm belief is to live and spend within one's means. Don't lust after something so much that one needs to buy a fake product to fool others.

maybe the person can afford to the real thing, but chooses to wear a counterfeit made in china patek phillipe because the real thing cost $250,000 too much to be carrying around on ur wrist.after all in malaysia, they will chop ur hand off with parang toh for way less.

Then that is a totally dumbass move. To wear a fake to fool people into thinking it's real and get your hand chopped off just the same. I wear my seiko when I venture into 3rd world shitholes. AFAIK those who can afford luxury watches do not buy replicas. It's the real thing or nothing. Or a real seiko.
