stay away from tragedy. if they don’t allow freshly laid concrete to cure in 6.9 days (yes, depending on moisture in the air, it takes up to 6.9 days for concrete to cure - see chart below) it will cum crashing down in 6.9 hours. this kind of speed is meaningless if they don’t comply with construction safety margins and follow rules of the trade that have been honed for centuries.

Chinese don't need so stupid Ang Moh engineering methods. Prefabricated sections of rails and pre-casted concrete blocks were used. And on the spot steel welding and metal joint fastening instantly have mechanical strength. If you want concrete to solidify fast, they are mixed with epoxy / polyester and other plastics including acrylic (super-clue) they made concrete 300% stronger and more water-proof and lasting.

Concrete admixtures are used to improve the behavior of concrete under a variety of conditions and are of two main types: Chemical and Mineral.

Chemical Admixtures

Chemical admixtures reduce the cost of construction, modify properties of hardened concrete, ensure quality of concrete during mixing/transporting/placing/curing, and overcome certain emergencies during concrete operations.

Chemical admixtures are used to improve the quality of concrete during mixing, transporting, placement and curing. They fall into the following categories:

• air entrainers
• water reducers
• set retarders
• set accelerators
• superplasticizers
• specialty admixtures: which include corrosion inhibitors, shrinkage control, alkali-silica reactivity inhibitors, and coloring.

Mineral admixtures make mixtures more economical, reduce permeability, increase strength, and influence other concrete properties.

Mineral admixtures affect the nature of the hardened concrete through hydraulic or pozzolanic activity. Pozzolans are cementitious materials and include natural pozzolans (such as the volcanic ash used in Roman concrete), fly ash and silica fume.

They can be used with Portland cement, or blended cement either individually or in combinations.

ASTM Categories - Concrete Admixtures -

ASTM C494 specifies the requirements for seven chemical admixture types. They are:

• Type A: Water-reducing admixtures
• Type B: Retarding admixtures
• Type C: Accelerating admixtures
• Type D: Water-reducing and retarding admixtures
• Type E: Water-reducing and accelerating admixtures
• Type F: Water-reducing, high range admixtures
• Type G: Water-reducing, high range, and retarding admixtures

Note: Changes occur in the admixture industry faster than the ASTM consensus process. Shrinkage Reducing Admixtures (SRA) and Mid-Range Water Reducers (MRWD) are two areas for which no ASTM C494-98 specifications currently exist.

ROME — A commuter train derailed near Milan on Thursday morning, killing at least three people and injuring dozens of others, at least five of them seriously.

The central carriages of the train, operated by the government-owned rail company Trenord, jumped the tracks near the town of Pioltello, about eight miles east of Milan. At least two of the cars struck power poles, and one was badly mangled, bent almost at a right angle.

An official with Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, the company that manages the tracks, said that experts had determined there had been a “structural failure” of the tracks about a mile from where the train had derailed but that it was “premature to say whether that was the cause.”

Luciana Lamorgese, the prefect, or central government administrator, in Milan, told reporters that “investigations were still underway.”

Tiziana Siciliano, the prosecutor put in charge of investigating the accident, said that the train had been “very crowded” and that many of the injured passengers had been taken to Milanese hospitals. Those with lighter injuries were taken to two schools in Pioltello.

Milan’s police chief, Marcello Cardona, said that the causes of the crash would be investigated “calmly and with professionalism,” and that all hypotheses would be taken into consideration.

One passenger told the Italian news agency ANSA that the train had begun to shake shortly before the accident.

Another passenger, who was in one of the carriages that derailed, said the train had been traveling at a normal speed. Speaking to the news channel Sky TG24, he described a chaotic scene in the moments after the coach suddenly veered, including the sight of a man next to him who appeared to have a broken leg.

“I am just glad to be alive,” he said.
