I received a letter from CPF that I have a sum of $213,137 in my retirement account and that I will be receiving a monthly payout of $1,182 in a few months time when I reach age 60. The payout is expected to last 26 years.

This will last me until age 96, but I would probably not last that long. When I pass away, the balance of the retirement account (if any) will pass to my beneficiaries.

I calculated the return on the payout to be about 4.5% per annum.

According to tan kin lian's math, 60 + 26 = 96.

I wonder how many insurance policies were miscalculated under his watch.
