If Operation Coldstore had fallen through, and the Barisan Sosialis had won the elections, Singapore would be a very different place today. A little less developed perhaps, a less impressive GDP, but a kinder and happier place with a much narrower income gap and greater equality.

What if. It would be a good basis for a Singaporean novel, as utopian as the republic of Gilead in Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale is dystopian.
