An Uber driver who was feeling unwell had to pull over while in the middle of ferrying a ferrying a passenger, and eventually passed away in hospital.

According to Shin Min, the deceased, 60-year-old Wang Yong Qing, had picked up a male passenger near the airport. Mid-way through the ride, Wang felt unwell and stopped the car. It is not clear from the Shin Min report whether he pulled over to one side of the road, but his passenger called for an ambulance at around 7.05pm.

Wang was then sent to Changi General Hospital. An SCDF spokesperson confirmed with Mothership that he eventually died there.

Two jobs a day, less than five hours of sleep each day
Wang’s older brother, 62-year-old Wang Yong Shun (whom we will refer to in this report as Yong Shun for clarity), told the Chinese daily that Wang had two jobs.

Yong Shun reportedly said that during the daytime, he worked as a transport driver, occasionally sending construction workers to their worksite. For the past half a year, however, he started driving for Uber in the evenings after getting off his first job at 5pm. He would only stop driving at around 1am each night.

The elder Wang also revealed that his younger brother was single, and the siblings lived together. He reportedly only learned about what had happened to his brother when he received a call from the police.

Overworked for the past three weeks
According to his brother, Wang had been a driver for more than 20 years and had always been healthy, with few visits to the doctor. It was only recently, Yong Shun reportedly said, that he looked to be overworked.

He reportedly added that it had been difficult to wake his brother up in the mornings in the three weeks leading up to his death.

Poor chap literally worked himself to death. Let us hope his loved ones do not burn paper vehicles for him. Else kena become driver again in the afterlife.
