I bet they are hiring a bunch of pinoys for the positions let go. And they will report savings later in wages. Smart move.
All of these who lost their jobs are now-branded as poor-performers by the media to protect Surbana.
Which company will still wanna hire them, u tell me?
But of course you retrench poor performers. Where got retrench good performers one? Who don't like more money?![]()
The whole issue appeared to be structured like a retrenchment although they term in a dismissal of poor-performers. Poor-performers don't appear overnight and they are usually dismissed over an extended period of time because u need to hire sufficient suitably-qualified staff to replace them before letting them go as a cohort.
This is the best time to retrench. As a GLC, they are likely to issue some bonus, eg. teachers got 3-4 months last year in total. Evil HR will just use part of the bonus for the whole company as the part of the compensation package if they dismiss the staff as "retrenchment". The remaining staff will mentally-adjusted to be thankful for retaining their jobs although their bonus is reduced.
The old don't go, how the new arrive? Of course you clean out the poor performers so you can hire better performers. So it is not a retrenchment you understand? Retrenchment mean no business so lay off cut costs. You see how crowded all the eateries are? Economy is brimming with confidence for the future, with you for you for Singapore!
Please help me to congratulate those that resign themselves . They will be a better person.I know of a few working in tuas choose to resign themselves.
those who survived were given C and D grading
D mean no bonus
C mean a little bit
Surbana ‘did not follow due process’ in sacking unionised staff
Surbana Jurong group chief executive Wong Heang Fine told staff in an email sent on Tuesday that the 54 axed workers were poor performers who could not be allowed to affect the rest of the organisation negatively.
In his post, Mr Nasordin noted that eight of the affected workers were staff who were offered re-employment, or contract renewal. “Why did the company offer them re-employment or renew their contract if their performance was not satisfactory to begin with? Why did the company not allow these long-serving staff to see out their contracts?” he said.
“Some even cleared their performance review in July.”
Adding that the “timing of the termination leaves much to be desired”, Mr Nasordin also said: “It is not surprising for the public to have the perception that SJ (Surbana Jurong) is avoiding compensating the workers.”
