Serious Will Singapore implode? - External Debt of $1.766 TRILLION

One must surely have sleepless nights when we have this level of uncertainty. For a country that was known 4 decades for obsession with hygiene now has rats in high end restaurants and malls and some even dropping from the ceilings. The state NTUC income has bread shelves with rats scurrying around. And 8 people died in high risk kidney transplant ward from contamination arising from lack of basic hygiene from our number one hospital run by a cabinet minister's wife. Even an upmarket pastry with a long history run by a 5 star hotel has been impacted by food poisoning.

If they cannot tackle hygiene, the economy is even more complex.

These are symptomatic of things going wrong.

Given the performance of RWS, there be difficulty getting bids for Casino #3 much less Casino #4.

The collapse of the F&B side has already begun. Servings per night at the fancier places are down by as much as 50%. Things are so bad that there were closures even before the year end festival period. In the recently concluded Christmas season, there appeared to be a large number offers for overpriced meals in the $50 to $70 range as opposed to the traditional $80 to $100 range. The F&B closures can be expected to accelerate after Chinese New Year period.

And these are the "bright" spots in the Singapore economy ....

When you import third world shitizens from countries with poor hygiene standards like PRC, India, Phillippines, etc to work here, you will get the same third world hygiene standard. these assholes have spend a lifetime developing poor hygiene standards in their countries before they came here, does anyone seriously expect them to just stop it all of a sudden when they come here?

By the time he died, man managed to reverse all the good things that he did for Singapore. Once considered an export on China, people began to realise that he had no influence and no idea about China. An ordinary businessman from Taiwan or Hong Kong would have known more. His strength was identifying the right people to deliver and after 25 years that skill too suffered and like all fathers he thought his son had it all. Yes, he overstayed his welcome.

The Old man once said his Son was so obvious a choice, it was only because of his Pedigree that they had to slow down his ascent to avoid charges of nepotism.

I guess it was just providence he didn't claim the throne any sooner.

It was cancer that he did not claim the throne sooner.

Look at the rats at Bukit Batok that ran riot for the second time and again in a big way. Even a simple thing like infestation at a prominent place they could not work it out. And they named MRT commuters for not disposing the food properly.

Look at the Orchard floods and despite having claimed to have solved it the first time around it is now a regular occurrence. We had worst floods then until the 70s. When my dad goes to Rochor to buy hawker food especially the Hokkein Mee and it begins to rain, my mum would go into a fit because it was that bad but they fixed it by the late 70s. Now we got a clown called Vivian who instead of addressing the issue gives it a new name.

Just to add, with so much money deposited, SGD cannot depreciate or they will flight. With a strong Sgd, wonders what can be the new engine for economic growth. Or have we mounted a tiger and is now scratching their head on how to dismount?

What makes u think foreign depositors into our banks have to be in SGD?only daft sinkies spend SGD.

I remember when Old Man revealed in the press that it was Rajaratnam who spotted the talent. Then Raja gives an interview on how he noticed the rare talent. It was the biggest wayang show. Old man schooled his son in Malay and Russian and taught him statecraft from an early age. He also held him back one year to have him ready for the SAF scholarship.

Another 20 years later another Mama called Dhanbalan claimed to have spotted Ho Ching's talent and made her director of Temasek despite knowing full well that Minister of Finance was her husband. This incident made it very clear that Goh Chok Tong despite being PM could not stop the Minister of Finance having his wife heading one of the Sovereign Fund. If this is not conflict of interest I am not sure what is.

I am waiting for the day and it should be soon when it is announced that Shanmugam or Vivian talent spotted old man's grandson. And the circus carries on.

Ya hor, maybe you are right .Perhaps the Indonesians and PRCs come hear to deposit in USD, Euros or Yens.

We are probably our worst enemy. The PAP has done so much damage and continues to hide its errors with a compliant media and we end up picking a topic that is benign in nature.

Singapore primary issue is that the present leadership has no idea or a roadmap on the future of the economy. We first moved into low end manufacturing, tourism, finance, port operations and service industries. When it was time we moved to high end and value add manufacturing. We even entered pharmaceuticals and armaments.

Now we find ourselves in the last 15 years at the crossroads with no idea except for Casinos. Nothing else has worked. Look at our commercial landscape where the prominent things are emergence of eateries and restaurants to service the high intake of foreigners.

In 2008, the URA masterplan revealed that Jurong Lake District will be our new future. The PM and his wife have been canvassing in the West Coast of US to attract companies to setup satellite operations and labs at the Jurong Lake District. The HS rail is now part of the plan.

The last 15 years we have been in no man's land Lets see what next. I have little hope as the issue is leadership and the PAP. They have secured the votes by unfair means and there is no incentive or a spur on their side to deliver. So it might be a show.

can our LTK reverse?

The PAP has destroyed any chance of an alternative government by crippling the opposition. I am sure WP or LTK will tell you that they are not ready to form the govt unless capable people who are willing can be co-opted to bolster the team.

The PAP's dog-in-the manger attitude where the approach is if they can't run the country they will not let others do it.

can our LTK reverse?

Very convenient. Blame indians for chinaman failures.
