when there was a re-enactment of ww2 in sillycon valley a few years ago with various nationalities wearing their respective military uniforms, attendees of the parade were red-faced when taiwanese showed up all dressed as nazi soldiers but with the nationalist kmt insignia. the crowd thought it was a sick joke with chinks dressed as nazis.

1 taiwanese even dressed up as a nazi officer with nazi insignia.

americans have no clue that nationalist soldiers in china in the 30s and 40s were trained by wehrmacht officers and wore nazi uniforms.

I guess war historians do keep track, Chiang K.S was desperate to get any form of help he could garner in those days. The interesting thing is how the Wehrmacht's training and supplies continued after Nazi partnered the Japanese.

sometime towards the end of the war, supplies stopped and chinese troops relied heavily on allied equipment and attire coming in from the burma road. majority of divisions fighting japs in nanjing were equipped with ww1 german weapons and attire. post-nanjing, their uniforms began to change to ragtag as regular divisions in nazi uniforms were wiped out.

What a waste, imagine KMT using MG42s against the Commies, Human Wave Techniques may not had been useful at all...

the kmt army was trained and equipped to defeat the commies. but japs came along. :p

shiok or not? heil to germany and china! long live to zie fatherland! :D

What's wrong with the Taiwanese staging a Nazi march past? It's acting for Christ's sake.

Lots of American movies have done it, and we don't see American producers or actors getting fired.

Chiang Kai Shek's adopted son was a part of the Wehrmacht... not surprising at all...

Being part of the wehrmacht does not mean that you are a Nazi. If you are a die hard nazi, you would join the Waffen SS, and not the wehrmacht. The very fact that he is nor Aryan already means that he cannot be and will not be accepted as a member of the National Socialist party.

What is so surprising about that? The German army was the best army in the world at that time. Were they supposed to be trained by the Americans, who were more pathetic then the French army?

it was also a carryover from the qing and warlord years as germany provided warships and advisors to the chink navy during the 1st sino-jap war. ironically, japs were allies with the british then.

History is ironic. Nationalist China owed a lot to Germany for the Nanjing decade 1927-1937. John Rabe and Siemens greatly aided the development of China, the building up of the communication systems and the heavy industries. Germany loaned China 100 millions marks, 20 millions in barter, 80 millions were written off as a gesture of goodwill during the early period of the 2nd Sino-Japanese war. according to KMT great Chen Lifu, the German ambassador made two serious attempts to bring about peace talks between China and Japan before the battle of Nanjing, the Germans offered a China-Japan-German alliance against Soviet Union and Communism. when Germany withdrew its support to China, some German military advisors chose to stay in China and served the Chinese army, providing valuable assistance in strategy and logistics.

when ww2 ended. according to author Freda Utley. in Shanghai, many foreigners complained that why the German nationals were allowed to move around freely in Shanghai and weren't put in prison camps. Utley found out from the authorities that they received orders not to arrest the German nationals and to treat them well. China remembered Germany as a friend back then.

according to most military white papers of the 1930s, France was no.1 best army, Japan no.2, Germany no.3 or 4. France's decisive defeat by Germany in just 45 days during ww2 was totally unexpected and unbelievable and a real shocker to the world back then.

czech army not far behind. could go toe to toe with germans and or russians in 1939, but they capitulated to nazis without a fight.

think Czechoslovakia was well-known for their weapons' high quality and reliability back then. the Chinese Nationalist government bought plenty of Czech weapons during the 1930s, their top 3 choices of weapons from Europe.
