Chitchat Large Slab of Wall Fell Off! As Usual, No One Hurt! Guess The HDB Estate?

At about 6.00am Wednesday morning (19 October 2016), a slab of wall attached at the top of a Circuit Road HDB block 51 fell off and smashed into the ground floor. Fortunately, no residents were in the area when the incident happened but it has shocked residents who were surprised that such an accident could even occur.

The Marine Parade Town Council told members of the press that it wass a calcium silicate cladding board that had "dislodged" from the HDB block. They have engaged a Professional Engineer together with BCA and HDB to investigate the incident. They have also inspected the affected block and other blocks in the neighbourhood to check for weaknesses in the building's facade.

Local resident Gary shared that Circuit Road estate (Macpherson SMC under Tin Pei Ling) has many elderly residents and they may not be agile enough to avoid such falling objects. If an object from height falls on them, it could cause serious and even fatal injuries to them.

This is the second such incident of HDB blocks falling apart. The previous incident happened one month ago in Tampines where a concrete sunshade fell off a four storey HDB block.

People walking below might be injured or killed. Jialat. HDB should be sued for quality control lapses. How could our buildings survive earth tremors much less than earthquakes?

When will the architects stop designing such silly decorative pieces made of concrete that are neither nice nor of any use. The first case happened in the 90's and nothing was learned. Those poor engineer has to find ways to anchor such concrete decorative piece just to appeace the vanity of thoughtless architects.

they could have used a lighter material such as fiberglass for facades or wall covering. afterall, it's a facade. and they can rent out space in the column to mobile operators to place cellular antennas as rf will propagate through fiberglass. plastic will warp in the sun, thus it's not a good covering. carbon fiber will absorb rf and attenuate the energy, thus not good for cellular antennas. metal is out of the question. to increase revenue and find new sources of income, best is to use that space either for billboard advertising, giant tv monitor for lit advertising, or light material rf-transparent facade for antenna concealment. bunch of bodohs at hdb. i can make them rich.

those affected by tampons and had rotten luck, compensation is in order for those that lost money at sg pools - with no "strings" attached...:p
