For me is probably due to dialogue in German with English subtitles + sceneries that make it nice..if is eng then not nice anymore.

The best war movie of all time is Apocalypse Now....with full metal jacket a distant 2nd.

More recent the good ones were Platoon and Heartbreak Ridge.

Most recent was probably Black Hawk Down

i'm sick of ww2 movies .. are there any more contemporary ones?

i like American sniper. Lone survivor and 13 Hours weren't so good.

Oh fuck.. so this is another one of Mel gibson's christian movies

most bizarre war movie for me involves a russian female soldier, a chink peasant, and a jap chick in school uniform. all 3 were stranded in the wilderness in manchuria after getting lost during the invasion of jap-held manchuria by the soviets near the end of ww2. based on true story.

Sounds interesting. What is the title ?

I remember seeing one with German pilot crash into the white with England pilot crashing too and enemies turned friends .title is "into the white"

purple sunset. it's on youtube.

How about "Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence"?

didn't watch that. still amazed that mr. yang the peasant survivor didn't do upskirt on the voluptuous russian lady and the pintsized jap student while spending nights and days with them. if he were a sinkie peasant he would most likely peek upskirt and jerk off. luckily for the females, he wasn't an ah neh rapist.

the song title is pretty good. Composed by ryuichi sakamoto who also starred in the movie alongside with david bowie.
Yes, it's quite a well-known melody, and it also starred the famous Kitano Takeshi (or Beat Takeshi):
wikipedia.org/wiki/Merry_Christmas,_Mr._Lawrence
"Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence (Japanese: Senjō no Merī Kurisumasu, 戦場のメリークリスマス, "Merry Christmas on the Battlefield"), also known in many European editions as Furyo (俘虜, Japanese for "prisoner of war"), is a 1983 British-Japanese drama film directed by Nagisa Oshima, produced by Jeremy Thomas and starring David Bowie, Tom Conti, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Takeshi Kitano and Jack Thompson."
