KUALA LUMPUR: A number of 89,771 firearms license had been issued until December 31 last year, said the Home Ministry.

In a written reply to Nga Kor Ming (DAP-Taiping), the ministry added that from that amount, 12,917 were for pistols, 1,789 revolvers, rifle 2,243, shotgun 63,145, pump gun 7,731 and 1,946 for other firearms such as starter’s pistol, tranquilliser gun, dart gun, stun gun and spear gun.

“In combating the smuggling of firearms, the police had taken stern action under the Prevention of Crime Act 1959, Penal Code, Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012, Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and the Dangerous Drugs Act (Special Preventive Measures) 1985 through Cantas Khas Operation,” it said in Dewan Rakyat on Thursday.

Nga had asked the Home Ministry to state in details on the number of firearms license that had been approved by the government according to its categories and what are the measures taken to curb firearms smuggling from abroad.

2,917 + 1,789 + 2,243 + 63,145 + 7,731 + 1,946 = 89.771 (90,000)

you sinkies suck in maths !:D:kma:

I can imagine the amount of kopi money received with these numbers.

A friend in KL related he was told to donate RM 20k so that his firearm license could be issue.Absurd at it seems despite active in the sports circuit and waiting for almost a year and also not his first firearm.

Malaysia Boleh !

What about the illegal and unlicensed firearms? In the hundreds of thousands I am sure. That is why FTs and visitors to Malaysia are better behaved as compared to sinkieland. We only have kitchen knives bought from NTUC.

The thai Malaysian border is porous....better than yesteryears after 911 but still can easily pass thru....not to mention easy access by sea from long coastline
