Former Solicitor-General and Law Society president Francis Seow has died at the age of 88.

Singapore Democratic Party chief Chee Soon Juan broke the news on his Facebook page. Chee said that Seow, a father of four, died in Boston, USA, where he had been living in exile.

Chee added, “I always enjoyed his wit when we met. He also wrote the Foreword to my book, The Power of Courage. My deepest condolences to the Seow family.”

Seow, who joined the Singapore Legal Service in 1956, served as Solicitor-General from 1969-71. He became Law Society president in 1986.

In 1987, Seow was one of the lawyers who represented 16 individuals arrested and detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA), as part of Operation Spectrum. They were alleged to have been part of a Marxist conspiracy against the government and people of Singapore.

In 1988, Seow was also detained under the ISA for 72 days, when he was accused of having received funds from the United States to promote democracy in Singapore. He later alleged that he was subjected to torture during his detention.

That same year, Seow was part of a Workers’ Party team that contested Eunos GRC in the General Election, against the People’s Action Party. The WP team garnered more than 49 per cent of the vote.

Later accused of tax evasion, Seow fled the country and was convicted in absentia.

Yahoo Singapore has reached out to Chee Soon Juan for comment.

He was a yankee running dog who tried to replace Singapore's government with a yankee puppet regime. It's a good thing PAP nipped it in the bud and francis seow was not voted in. If he wasn't guilty, why did he run away?

I am in 2 minds about his death, Francis Seow was no choirboy. He and Kuan Yew were buddies and he was the punisher of Old fart's political opponents. He was a zelot when it came to whacking Old Fart's opponents. Until they had the falling out, he was pretty much Old Fart's right hand man. He could have exposed a lot of inside stuff. He did do some of it in his books, but I think he knew where all the skeletons were buried.

I suspect their falling out had something to do with Francis Seow evading his fair share of taxes and taking of American money.

His debate with the late old fart on TV, I can still remember the part when he was told on TV..."you were seen walking with his mistress on Battery Road & his reply to the late old fart, that made his face turned red & the TV camera quickly panned away".

One of Wuxia writer of the past, Gu Long, whose quote in one of his novel made into a film was " your best friend is also your best enemy".
