Because unlike losing PAP candidates, she does not have cushy jobs that will await her in the private sectors should she take up NCMP. Have to agree with you that it is disappointing for Li Lian not to take up the NCMP seat. If you are for the people, work it out for the net 4 years to prove yourself. That first win in Punggol was just a fluke for someone who was not a known face there. There is a price to pay for politics. But where is the financial support from the party? Isn't it a norm for the party to collect some token every month to pay for party expenses, including maybe supporting a NCMP seat?

She should look up to her WP predecessor - JBJ, one the first NCMPs to have spoken in Parliament. JBJ didn't have a cushy job either, but sacrifice followed by sacrifice.
