The value conscious ones get their friends with music connections to record songs 'compilation' on blank metal tapes.
Hifi decks with cassettes and dubbing features was all the rage then and many budding DJs got their start like that.
The plebeians recorded from radio programs like bbc top of the pops or weekends American top 40.

Pet shop boys I think was next stage after centrepoint kids disbanded.
After centre point kids disband , the fashion changes to Bros type with boots, t-shirts , white and black jeans with Depeche mode and bros print, no more centrepoint kids neon color shirts.

yeah, can also bring the blank metal tapes to cassette shop to record. Per music song $0.50 cents :D
