Aeron Chair from Herman Miller

It has finally happened. My Korean office chair has collapsed:D
The mechanism connecting to the chair is koyak & when I sit on it I get sea sick because it is not stable anymore.

Did a final check on what is available & notice that most of the Korean made office chairs are going for upwards of $600+. So after reading about the aeron & embody chairs I decided to go with the newer Herman Miller Embody chair for about $2,000. It will be my Xmas present & will probably be the last office chair that I will be getting because it has a 12 year warranty:)

Painfully waiting for it because I am currently using a teak chair & it is uncomfortable after an hour or more.

Can get in Sg or not? Last I checked, distributor was at last time metro opposite last time yohan. Didn't spare time to go down to check it out though. Any problem buying local if qty is only for one?

The info won't help because it's part of a bulk shipment.

It'll cost me a couple of hundred dollars on shipping & GST to ship all the items I've ordered from Amazon:(
It's my Xmas shopping spree:)

The official distributor is still Xtra at Park Mall. Their Herman Miller products are on display at the ground floor

When I went there to take a look at the Embody they didn't even have one on display because they had sold it. So the chairs are popular. So I put an order for one without actually trying it:o

However I am buying it from an alternative source which is slightly cheaper. Go take a look at
http://forums.fuckwarezone.com.sg/m...premium-chairs-pictures-included-3193149.html

The person with the nick of "Unwanted" has been importing Herman Miller chairs into Spore for a couple of years now. His supplier is an official Herman Miller distributor so if you need to get parts for it you can go to through the distributor Xtra.

You pay a deposit of $100 & pay the balance when the chair is in Spore & ready to be delivered or picked up. I am buying only one but others have made special arrangements on larger quantities for their offices.

If the chair is too comfortable, you will forget to stand up and take a break from work

Since my office chair broke I'm using a dinner table chair & I'm feeling the effects, with aches & pains to various parts of my body. The purpose of a good ergonomic chair is that it will supports the body properly. With proper support you don't need to take breaks as often.

Initially I didn't understand the following video since the text is in Japanese

However I think it shows the advantages of the embody chair. The chair allows movement of the body while providing support. So you don't have to stand up to get exercise.

Some points to consider:

1) Some civil serpents got into serious trouble in the Court of Public Opinion for ordering expensive office chairs - Herman Miller to be precise.

http://singaporemind.blogspot.hk/2012/07/lessons-from-bromptom-bike-purchase.html

2) In small place like Sinkieland, it will be easy to trace identity of very few who had made purchases of $2,000 office chairs from the distributor.

3) So, if one is concerned about protecting one's identity especially if in the past one has written apparently anti-Lightning posts in an online forum, it would be imprudent to say the least, to write about recent acquisition. In addition to the cost, time factor will make it easier for ISD to track one down.

4) Should one not be concerned, then why? Remember Lightning Brigade works as a team and some nicks will be designated to appear pro-Opposition always.

5) Subliminal message is if the expensive chair is good enough for an affluent private citizen then there is nothing wrong with the government throwing away taxpayers' money on such chairs even though there are cheaper and only marginally less comfortable alternatives available.

6) I have spent my own money on extravagant items such as Vertu phones, but would be aghasted if these were purchased using taxpayers' money for civil serpents.

No prizes for guessing which nick I am alluding to. :D

Die lah now I will have to fear the next knock on the door:)
I may fear retribution if I'm one of those who go around threatening to do away with the old fart & his family but I'm just an unhappy cog in the Spore system. The same is true for most of the people here

The PAP has screwed up badly & it's time for them to pay the political price. I think they will be too busy "fixing" the opposition to worry about the many unhappy "lesser mortals".

Here is a song that I'm sure many Sporeans can relate to:o

It's been a year since I got my $2,000 Herman Miller Embody chair & I thought I'd give an update.

A good chair is something you don't think about because it's just comfortable. On the other hand a bad chair is something you think about constantly because it's uncomfortable & may even cause pain. That happened when I tried sitting on a wooden dinner table chair for hours:)

Since I got the Embody I haven't given much thought about it because it hasn't given me any problems. In fact I sometime doze off while sitting on the chair. Something that never happened when I was using a Korean office chair because there was not much of a backward tilt. On the Embody you can adjust the backward tilt & this is something I like. Even though the Embody doesn't have a head rest I don't find this a problem as I can still lay back & rest my head on the top of the back.

When I 1st received the chair, I played around with the adjustments e.g. armrest. height, tilt, buttom, etc, but after the initial setup I haven't done any adjustments.

As for price, it is of course an expensive chair because it is being shipped from the US & Herman Miller is like the iPhone of office furniture. You can take a look at the Aeron chair which is cheaper than the Embody.

powered stand-up desk is the rage these days in silicon valley. more and more workers are standing at their desks. chairs are so yesterday.

Standing up is I think a fad. It might be ok if you are doing something like sales where you are often going off to meetings, but it if you are doing actual work like accounts, programming, ... you need to be sitting.

I remember when those funny looking kneeling chairs were in vogue but nowadays it is rare to see them

After a while I expect they will go back to using their Herman Millers. I used to work at a US MNC & they had tons of surplus old Henrey Miller furniture which they would pass to their offices outside of the US.

as colleagues all around me are standing up at their desks, i'm still sitting. i'm a sitter as i like to lean back and ponder the future of the galaxy and the larger universe where blackholes abound, sucking in everything in their paths including light. and then the ocassional burst of light like laser beams escaping from the hole and shooting across the expanse pulsating and strobing like a beacon from a lighthouse.
