SINGAPORE — Reports are coming in from social media that the roof of the Hilton Hotel along Orchard Road has collapsed following heavy rain.

SCDF is at the scene

Ok it's a ceiling so not so bad. Immediately can tell fasteners gave way to the load, not that load is heavy could be many reasons why fasteners gave in.

Oh dear, looks like a couple of cars are damaged.

Hi John, is the famous cheesecake still around? I remember When I was young, my parents would bring me there for afternoon tea and I would always order the cheesecake. :)

Best in Hilton is their Sunday Champagne Brunch

SPH and Mediacorpse should set up a news reporting centre in Orchard
Road

SCDF should also standby their ambulances there also

Guess the Nationality of the workers who installed the ceiling??

Afraid not Onitsuka. Ceiling, in this case a suspension ceiling use mechanical expansion anchors particularly sleeve anchors for a good and strong installation however too often contractors use nails shooting 3/4 to 1 inch nails into concrete using a powder actuated or gas tool. Problem with nails is embedment is limited and the impact itself often causes concrete around it to weaken. Also nails being only 2mm in diameter is definitely thinner and weaker than a 6mm sleeve anchor. Don't get the contractor wrong that he is cutting corners using a cheaper material in fact both are equally costly the main difference is the speed of installation - shooting comparing to drilling and then turning the anchor to expand it. I do not manufacture nor market these two products.

By the way for my home I do not allow nails, has to be anchors period.

It's about $9 a slice. But the cake is rich. Even a single slice can be filling.

Evening Froggy, may I know how much is the Sunday Champ Brunch priced at?

Opus Bar and Grill had been serving their legendary Champagne Brunch for years goes very well with all those fresh seafood particularly those sweet oysters. Last there was like 2-3 years ago remembered they have like 3 level of prices - food , food with wine or sparklers , food with champagne. Could not recall the price but should be around 120-130 range for food with champagne.

Its very popular so do book early. It's mid December now I'm sure Christmas and New Year is full by now.
