even with the new take over, they will still need staff to handle the operations. i doubt they will retrench and french normally pays well. it could be a blessing for the french to take over NOL. i have worked with the french before, cutting headcount is not on thier mind, they are quite pro worker, better than pap.

Im curious why you are following Papsmearer like a shadow, macam like a dog desperately trying to gain his master's attention. Anyway that fact that Maersk is laying off staff strengthens his point that NTUC should be helping sinkies NOL workers instead of throwing away money at 50,000 foreigners.

Krafty the shipping insider says cma cgm won't cut NOL staff.
His logic? He worked with frenchies before and know they are pro staff and not bothered with headcount.
NOL needs staff to run it.
It's a godsend NOL is bought over by French.

There is no need to worry. Plenty of GLCs to go round absorbing our very best from saf.

I guess some one should break the news to Krafty that Air France is laying off 2900 staff. Not bothered with headcounts my ass. The French would sell their own mothers to make a buck.

Air France managers fled a meeting on Monday about mass job cuts after angry staff waving banners and flags stormed the room, according to Reuters journalists at the scene.

The airline’s human resources and labour relations chief Xavier Broseta had his shirt ripped off and his tie hanging from his neck as he battled through crowds of workers, seeking to escape.

Broseta and Air France Chief Executive Frederic Gagey had been outlining a drastic cost cutting plan, described by the company as “Plan B” after it failed to persuade its pilots to accept a less radical one earlier this year.

Violent protests by workers are commonplace in France, where the population has a long tradition of taking the law into its own hands. This year, as the country struggles to come out of an economic downturn, has seen many.

Traffic disruption, damage to public property and injuries to police officers have gone hand-in-hand with a spate of demonstrations by farmers, taxi drivers, ferry workers and even tobacconists.

However, unlike the headline makers in some other disputes, pilots lack sympathy among the general public and the Socialist government.

Ministers have queued up in recent days to put pressure on pilots to strike a deal, and a Sept. 26 opinion poll for Le Parisien newspaper found 71 per cent of people see them as a privileged group, with 64 per cent believing they complain too much.

Ground staff trade unions long ago accepted the company’s original, less draconian, cost-saving regime, in contrast to the pilots, who staged a strike a year ago that cost the company €500-million ($560-million U.S.).

The main airline industry union FNAM also condemned the attack on Broseta calling it “outdated behavior.”

Air France CEO Gagey had already left the room on Monday before the works council meeting near Charles de Gaulle airport north of Paris was interrupted about an hour after it had begun.

Parent Air France-KLM said it planned to take legal action over “aggravated violence” carried out against its managers.

Air France confirmed in the meeting, which will not resume on Monday, that it planned to cut 2,900 jobs by 2017 and shed 14 aircraft from its long-haul fleet, two union sources said.

The cuts include 1,700 ground staff, 900 cabin crew and 300 pilots, the sources said. The long-haul business would be reduced by 10 per cent.

The French airline also wants to cancel its order for Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, the sources added. Air France-KLM has 19 787-9 and six 787-10 jets on order.

Industry sources said Boeing would be keen to keep the order on its books, possibly by agreeing to defer delivery.

Air France-KLM is seeking to cope with growing competition. It has been at loggerheads with its main pilots union, the SNPL, over its plans.

Europe’s big three flag carriers, which also include British Airways owner IAG and Germany’s Lufthansa, have been squeezed between low-cost competition inside Europe and fast-expanding long-haul airlines in the Gulf, as well as Turkish Airlines (THY).

Turkish Airlines is set to become the largest carrier on routes to and from Europe by the end of this year, ahead of British Airways, aircraft financiers gathered in Prague were told on Monday. Dubai’s Emirates would be in third place.

The data treats Air France and KLM separately.

Lufthansa, which is also battling with union opposition to cost-cutting, has managed to push forward plans for a revamped low-cost unit, Eurowings.

Kukushit59 is just a pathetic asshole with no life. that is why he stalks me throughout this forum like a lost dog. His sole aim in life is to discredit me, and my comments and threads. While at the same time not making one constructive comment himself or starting a serious thread himself. Of course when you venture an opinion here, you open yourself up to critics who might like, dislike or are neutral towards your comments. When you venture no opinion like him (other then his opinion of me), then you can sit back and make an ass of yourself. Personally, I think the fucktard is jealous. He repeated mentions people stroking my ego. But I never ask for my ego to be stroke. Just like I don't give out points to buy opinion. I find that when your words have a ring of truth, someone is assigned to stalk you discredit you at every turn. The PAP could make better use of taxpayer money.

The new French owners are for sure going to lay off people. Its only a question of how much. They have already said they will sell off $1 billion in assets after the purchase of NOL to help fund it. Staff are currently employed to operate and maintain these assets, whatever they are. Those people are gone. No shipping company consolidating through purchasing other shipping companies do so while retaining all the staff. If they did, what would be the point of consolidating if you cannot save on overhead. Kukushit59 is stupid. How stupid? He basically gave you ammo to shoot himself when he mentions Maersk laying staff off.

Re: Bastard NTUC celebrate Int. Migrant Day, but 1000s of NOL staff laid off, tiam ti

It seems like everyone is being helped or has some benefits, except Sinkies. Indons and Mynmars are getting help. Migrant workers get thanked. But sinkie workers get scolded by PAP for not being productive enough, not working cheaply enough, etc. NSmen give 2 years indentured service, paid less then Migrant workers, BUT THEY DON'T GET A THANKS. These Orgs want to contact with Unions to help the FTs, but who fights for sinkies who have lost their jobs or about to lose their jobs? I don't have an issue with these Orgs, Unions, Govt departments helping FTs, but come on, Sinkies must come first. Fucking PAP.

Migrant workers in Singapore recognised for their contributions
A local organisation throws a celebration ahead of International Migrants Day, while another sets up two help centres for migrant workers.

SINGAPORE: Ahead of International Migrants Day, which falls on Dec 18, organisations in Singapore are taking steps to thank migrant workers for their contributions. A celebration was held at Little India on Sunday (Dec 13), while two new help centres were opened for migrant workers.

The celebration featured educational roadshows, photo booths, picnics and a photo exhibition showcasing the stories and struggles of migrant workers who have left their homes to build a better future for their families. Organisers hope this will raise awareness among Singaporeans of the contributions of migrant workers.

More than 5,000 workers turned up at Little India for the event, which is organised by the Migrant Workers Centre. The centre hopes that more will show respect and appreciation to these workers, and treat them fairly.

"We have done well in places where the migrant workers play and live," said Mr Bennett Neo, chair-trustee of the Migrant Workers' Assistance Fund. "At the workplaces is one area that we need to focus a bit more, so we want to go reach out to the places they work in, so includes engaging the employers as well."

The centre will be working with unions to reach out to more employers. In other efforts, two help centres were opened by the Humanitarian Organization for Migration Economics (HOME). One centre is located in Grandlink Square and caters to Indonesian migrant workers. The other is located in Peninsula Plaza, for migrants from Myanmar. Among other services, the centres will provide counselling, as well as legal and employment advice to these workers.

"The Indonesian community is one of the largest communities in terms of migrant domestic workers, so we felt that we needed to have a presence, that we needed to establish ourselves in an area where many of them hang out, so that we can reach out to them better," said Mr Jolovan Wham, the executive director of HOME.

"Burmese migrant domestic workers and Burmese migrant workers in general, we're experiencing more and more of them, coming to HOME for assistance. In fact, our women's shelter now has seen a two-fold increase in the number of abused migrant workers seeing help."

The organisation hopes to reach out to one thousand more migrant workers every month.
