A professor at Pennsylvania State University was detained after the police escorted him off an international flight when he tried to sneak into a better class of seat, state media has reported.

Lu Yong was aboard United Airlines Flight 87 waiting to depart to New York on Sunday afternoon when he tried to “self-upgrade”, according to CCTV.

When flight attendants discovered he was in the wrong seat, they asked him to move but he refused.

The captain was alerted and decided to eject Lu from the plane. The airport police arrived to escort him off but he still refused to budge. It took three officers to pry a screaming and kicking Lu out of his seat, and they sustained minor injuries in the process.

He was detained and charged with disrupting public service, which can result in a maximum of three years in jail.

Lu is an associate professor of information sciences and technology at Penn State University. He also held a position at Southwestern University of Finance and Economics in Sichuan province, but it announced on Tuesday he had been fired.

Was he fired because of the incident or did he loose his job before the incident & therefore didn't have the $ to pay for an upgrade

I have seen this happened before. Once I was on a flight from PKG to SIN and traveling in first class. When we took off, there were some empty seats behind me. Once in the air, the seats became occupied by economy class PRC assholes. The FA bo chap them. They did not get served food or anything. She just let them sit there. But in the US airlines, the sense of fairness is very high. The FA will for sure fuck u over if you tried to sneak in. Typical PRC shit behaviour.

Offloaded flight passenger sacked by Chinese university

A Chinese passenger on an international-bound flight was arrested for creating a scene and assaulting police officers at Shanghai Pudong International Airport on Sunday afternoon.

The unruly Chinese passenger, who was forcibly evicted from a United Airlines flight bound for New York at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport on Sunday, has been fired from his job.

The passenger, Lu Yong, was a guest professor at the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics in Chengdu, Sichuan Province.

The university issued a statement on its Weibo account today and confirmed he was teaching at the university as a guest professor since August. Lu was also the director of Internet Finance Research Center at the university.

Lu is also an associate professor at the Pennsylvania State University in the United States.

Southwestern University said it values virtues and ethical conduct of its teachers and does not tolerate unlawful behavior.

It therefore chose to terminate its relationship with Lu.

On Sunday, after boarding Flight UA087 for New York, Lu insisted on a seat upgrade and then went and occupied a seat assigned to another passenger. As Lu refused to go back to his seat or leave the aircraft, the captain notified the airport police.

Three police officers then tried to reason with him and then forcibly removed him from the aircraft. Some of the officers were reportedly hurt.

Pictures and videos of the incident went viral on the Internet.

Lu has been detained and faces charges of assaulting police officers and deliberately obstructing public activity.

Thankfully, this kind of behaviour is not tolerated on many European or North American carriers and that we have headcount checks in each cabin before take off.

Why must the PRCs always try to cheat or pull a fast one? What is wrong with their mentality? This chap is clearly educated and probably had the funds for an upgrade. I'll never understand the 'Chinaman' psyche.

I was on a no frills Jetstar flight from BKK to Spore & a chinese passenger tried to switch to a more expensive seat with more legroom, without paying the extra $10.

However the air crew told him to get back to his cheap seat & fortunately there was no scene made

Not all Chinese, we have the 华桥, all the Chinese here are known as & elsewhere in the world; but I agree with you with the "worse than animals". I have to repeat this again....traveled once with a planeload of Chinese ( from PRC), from Bangkok to Singapore, they were a tour group, the behaved worse than animals, clambering all over the seats & making a ruckus...it was an Air Asia flight..should have flown them in the cargo hold.
