Harry’s ex-director charged for falsely declaring salaries in work pass applications

SINGAPORE — The former director of Harry’s International — which operates the popular Harry’s chain of bars — was today (Nov 12) charged with 20 counts of falsely declaring salaries when applying for work passes for foreign workers, in order to obtain Employment Passes (EP) for them.

Parmjit Kaur, a 48-year-old Singapore citizen, was in charge of human resources at Harry’s International. She is accused of telling her staff to declare in the 20 foreign employees’ work pass applications that they would draw salaries of S$3,100, even though she allegedly knew they would be paid less.

The declarations were made between April 9 and Sept 2 2013. The case will be heard in court again on Dec 10.

MOM and ICA are no match against these scheming employers acting in cahoots with the FT. No jail term, just imposing fine is a joke to eradicating this malpractice. If jail term of 6 months is mandatory for employers, and also jail term of 12 months + deportation is mandatory for foreigners, such malpractices will be controlled unlike today, it is as common as daylight.

Otherwise, don't waste time to use kindergarten kids to eradicate this problem in sinkie land.
