New PAP minister Ong Ye Kung's father was from the Barisan Socialist. Yet today, Ong is a PAP cabinet minister, at the top levels of the political party that once viewed his father as a security and political threat.

I often read from opposition people that if opposition comes into power, they want to carry out an immediate purge of PAP cadres, including their family members. That's why PAP retaining power is important to us. At least when PAP wins, life continues as normal for everything, including opposition people. PAP leaves their political rivals alone unless they engage in activities that can destabilize Singapore. And no, winning a GRC and booting out a couple of PAP cabinet ministers is not really destabilizing Singapore. Low Thia Khiang is still living in peace and safety despite throwing a monkey wrench in PAP's political succession plan last GE.
