New CEO appointed for Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City

Incoming CEO Ng Kok Siong has gained insights on the project at both management and board levels and is "uniquely positioned" to contribute to its success.

SINGAPORE: The Ascendas-Singbridge Group has appointed Mr Ng Kok Siong as the chief executive officer of the Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City (SSGKC).

In a press release issued on Monday (Sep 28), it said that Mr Ng is currently the executive vice president of Singbridge and has over 20 years of real estate experience in investment, development, asset management and real estate consultancy in the Asia Pacific region, particularly in China.

The group said Mr Ng had been actively involved with SSGKC since January 2011 and that he continued to supervise its growth when he returned to Singapore in 2012, leading to his board appointment in early 2015.

The current CEO of SSGKC, Mr Chin Phei Chen, has served in the role for two and a half years. He will be returning to another senior leadership role within the Temasek group of companies, said Ascendas-Singbridge, adding that Mr Chin's last day will be Oct 14.

"Having spent fruitful years involved in this significant project, I am pleased to have led the overall development of Guangzhou Knowledge City to where it stands today," said Mr Chin.

"Now that the project is evolving beyond its initial development phase, the time is ripe for my successor Kok Siong to oversee the establishment of enterprises and highly liveable residential elements," he added, saying that he had no doubt that Mr Ng would be able to contribute to SSGKC's future success, given his intimate knowledge of the project.

Ms Nina Yang, chief operating officer of Singbridge, said the "transition" is part of the company's ongoing efforts to ensure "continual and seamless leadership renewal".

Ms Yang added: "Kok Siong has been involved in the Guangzhou Knowledge City project since its early days, and we are pleased to welcome him back to its executive management team. With insights gained at both management and board levels, he is uniquely positioned to contribute to the success of Guangzhou Knowledge city, and take it to the next level."

Mr Ng said that he looks forward to returning to a management role and to steer the project's next stage of development and growth.

No problem. Speed up PR approvals and raise minimum sum again.

'Knowledge City'... with such a 牛逼 name, only fools would take it seriously. ;)

A little bird from the West told me that the PRIVATE investment vehicle of the Founding Familee had invested about 146 million USD in it too.

I was also told that to secure the JV, Teamasick paid about 63 million USD to various Chinese communist party members to get the necessary approvals and move the project along with minimum number of glitches.

I go to GZ quite often on business, and I never heard of this lancheow knowledge city. I do know that almost all the stops on their MRT is already surrounded with dense populations and neighbourhoods. Forget about a fast rail connection from HKG to this Knowledge city, but if they don't have their MRT going to this knowledge city, I wonder who will be interested in moving there.

My wife and I were in Guangzhou in the second half of last year and her distant relatives, who are Guangzhou natives, have never heard of this Knowledge City.

Strangely enough we met a few CCP officials based in GZ and they were aware of the existence of this Knowledge City and were singing praises of the wisdom of Li Zongli furen (meaning Chief Natural Aristocrat's wife, Ho Jinx).

Go figure.

P.S. It was only after what a little bird from the West told me the massive sums of funds that Teamasick spent on greasing the palms of quite a number of CCP officials that I realized why the latter were singing praises of Li Zongli furen.
