Singapore’s ports losing container trade
Malaysia Sun
Saturday 2nd May, 2009

Singapore’s largest port operator has slowed down, with container-shipping losing a lot of its market.

Mothballed ships from round the world have rented space in nearby coastal waters as they await what they consider will be a revival in their trade.

Singapore’s exports fell 11 per cent in March, causing cranes to become idle on the docks.

Singapore has been inundated with bad economic news with the central bank expecting a long and painful economic recovery.

The unemployment rate for local workers has risen to 4.8 per cent, the highest in five years.
