This raises many questions. Firstly, MG Perry Lim has only taken up the Chief of Army (C0A) appointment for slightly more than a year and by the end of August he would be in charge of the navy, air force and army as Chief of Defence Force(CDF). Is MG Perry ready to take up the appointment after just one year as COA? Or is the succession rushed through just to ensure that the appointment of CDF is filled while LG Ng is retired with a high chance that he might be rushed into politics in the upcoming elections?

The second question is as such. BG Melvyn Ong, similar to MG Perry is only one year into his appointment as the Chief Guards Officer. Furthermore, unlike MG Perry, he has barely completed his first year into his current appointment and now he is being pushed into the appointment of COA. Is the succession of MG Perry by BG Melvyn as COA a rushed succession for the sake of filling up the appointments brought about by LG Ng’s retirement, supposedly to join politics?

These are crucial questions because how can MINDEF guarantee that the SAF can and will continue to remain a peak fighting force with their generals rushed into key appointments after just over a year in their current respective appointments, where they are still learning the ropes and without yet gaining sufficient experience in managing such a large appointment before moving up the ladder?

Could MINDEF shed light on how the succession process works for the top brass in the armed forces, promotion policies, succession benchmarks and protocol?

Probably Ronald has not served NS. Otherwise he would not be worrying over whether is so and so ready for his new appointment, succession issues and so on. The entire organization is not doing anything of importance so what if there is disruption. Nobody will miss the generals. The fact that they can suka suka pull out these clowns, is a confirmation that they are not doing anything important. Just like someone who can go on leave for 6 months.

wouldn't worry too much about them having to settle in / down to learn the ropes as new weaponry to purchase is dictated by st group working in tandem with dsta. no req for war experience, so cbl is as cbl does - until golden parachute time comes...

The need to move these fellows up and then out quickly simply becuase there's more of them now.
So go thru the motion and it looks good on their resume....

they have to be rushed through as many top saf scholars are cumming up from behind, currently hentak kaki in queue. otherwise more "chief" appointments have to be created to keep them contented and in contention, for example, "chief mess occifer", "chief protocol occifer", "chief chobolan occifer", "chief flyswat occifer", "chief porlumpar occifer" and so on. :o

Useless Pinky tea-party failed badly to attract good candidates and has to resort to get form the bottom of the barrel SAF generals.
