Buy the Spitfire. That's a classic.
The F35 is a real piece of crap if it cant out fly the F16. Its easy to say that you dont need to see the enemy to shoot down the enemy n F35 was not designed to get into dogfights etc.
Dont forget this was the the fighter doctrine b4 the Vietnam war n the main US fighter the F4 Phantom was built to carry only missiles. However the rules of engagement was the pilots had to visually identity the enemy b4 attacking hence they had to get close n the missiles could not lock in close range. Also many missiles missed.
The f4s were later fitted with a gun n their kill rate increased.
Now think the F35. Its highly likely it will be placed in such situations again tat is why it has a gun..but if it's being out maneuvered all the time. N short range etc..what is its bloody use?
The USA needs to rethink the programme n redesign the plane. For example instead of having 1 plane to do 3 different jobs..navy, air force n marines. They should perhaps have 2 diff planes but with 50% parts interchangeability to reduce costs n less product lines. The navy n air force can have the same plane (like the F5) marines need vtol.
Maybe the yanks should have stuck w the F22. Modify it for air force n navy use. Marines get a new VTOL plane.

Each F-35 can carry 8 air to air missiles. A squadron of F-35s will have something like 100 air to air missiles amongst them. And even if they have only a 50% kill rate (in reality most of the missiles now have kill rates in the 90% +) they will kill 50 enemy fighters jets. Which air force in the world can put up more than 50 fighters at one time? And even more importantly, which air force pilots are so well trained that they will continue to give battle after seeing 50 of their colleagues get shot down, instead of running away and retreating? You are the jack ass reading too much comics.
During the Vietnam war the americans removed the guns from their jet fighters & went all missiles. They soon brought back the guns. The guns give better strategic options e.g. close quarter battles, when you run out of missiles,...
the f-35 is equipped with a dual-purpose 25mm gun system. the full ammo profile is displayed here. if you count the amount of 25mm rounds, they are exactly _____?
Enough for 4 seconds only or one or two short bursts, as good as useless.

it's 137 on each side for a total of 4 barrels, if you zoom in and count one by one. basically, the limited number is only for one or two targets of opportunity after running out of missiles, such as chancing upon a small convoy of camel humpers on the way back to base or a floating balloon filled with sightseeing tourists, oops, terrorists. the global rfi back in 2008 called for a more effective 25mm ammo that could provide ground support and do air-to-air combat with greater "lethality".
no one uses cannon nowadays. Look at the war in Syria and Iraq. No Western fighter jet has been strafing.

seldom used by usaf and usn in recent missions doesn't mean never use. recent missions are dictated by current potus never to get close to targets coupled with the total lack of air presence by enemies. new potus in 2017 may approve missions that are different from today's - i.e. turkey shoot by remote control.

well wait and wait...so far not used. Not even much in Afghanistan. And with A-10 forced out, US will hardly use canon. F-35B and C will not have canon until 2019.
"a-10 forced out"? what bs are you spewing? it's still in service. the house armed services committee blocked it's retirement.
"The House Armed Services Committee passed an amendment to their FY 2015 markup blocking A-10 retirement, stipulating that the fleet cannot be retired or stored until the U.S. Comptroller General completes certifications and studies on the abilities of other platforms used to perform CAS.[117] The Senate Armed Services Committee markup directed $320 million saved from personnel cuts to retain the A-10. Both Armed Services Committees of Congress draft plans kept the A-10 in service for at least another year.[118] The House Appropriations Committee voted in favor of retiring the A-10 fleet,[119] but the House FY 2015 spending bill blocked the retirement during 2015.[120]
The F-35A's operational readiness may be pushed back due in part to the blocked A-10 retirement, as the Air Force claims it is keeping maintainers needed to work on the F-35.[121] Lawmakers are backing bills to prevent A-10 retirement in FY 2015; up to 36 planes could be allowed to be moved to back-up status to free up maintainers for F-35 work,[122] and 18 will be moved to back-up status in 2015.[123] In January 2015, Air Force officials told lawmakers that it would take 15 years to fully develop a new attack aircraft to replace the A-10;[124] service leaders admit a follow-on weapon system for the A-10 is "on the table."[125] The Air Force plan is for F-16s and F-15Es to initially take up CAS sorties, which will then be taken over by the F-35A once sufficient numbers reach full operating potential over the next decade. After that, the service is considering purchasing a relatively inexpensive replacement to perform CAS against enemies that lack sophisticated air defenses.[126] A 2015 GAO report found that the USAF failed to account for all of the factors involved and the impact on other aircraft from the A-10's retirement and that the true costs could be higher or lower than projected.[127]"
do you have to be so rude? It is being forced out...so the fuck it is still around it is going FUCK!
most likely 15 rounds pre-loaded in beretta m9 with 3rd party airtronic magazine.
