supply-side economics. unfortunately, unlike oil and not having a global cartel like opec, rice is a commodity that is fraud with issues: global competition, cannot store forever, requires moisture-control and pest-control, various rice crops (not all prefer jasmine), price manipulation ignoring market forces usually leads to rude awakening.
