They found the man and his 7-series BMW sedan almost two hours later at Pioneer North Road and arrested him.

The police officers found more 100 boxes and plastic bags packed in the boot and on the passenger seats.

But instead of contraband such as drugs or illegals, they contained such foodstuff as curry puff and kueh-kueh (local pastries).

An Immigrations & Checkpoint Authority spokesman said the 47-year-old suspect arrived at the checkpoint from Malaysia at 12.15pm on Tuesday.

The New Paper understands that he had a valid permit to import food from Malaysia, but had underdeclared the quantity in his car.

He was directed to a designated bay area for further inspection but apparently misunderstood the instructions and drove away.

That 2 hour time lapse would have given this Osama look-alike sufficient time to unload many illegal stuffs from his car. Getting caught with food items is no big deal once he had unloaded illegal things elsewhere.

Misunderstood? He is not a newcomer to sinapor. He drove off when he knew the search would mean serious trouble for him. Had he got an illegal immigrant hidden in the trunk? Or, had he got weapons or illegal drugs stashed there?

So all the big noise of the paps about upgrading the check point to enhance security is a big boo-boo.

The Immigration Checkpoint Authority (ICA) Police were engaged in a car chase after a BMW carrying more than 130 boxes of curry puffs and kuehs refused to stop at the Tuas Checkpoint. The driver, a bearded Malay man in his 20s eventually surrendered himself stopping his car at Pioneer North Road near Nanyang Technological University.

A witness saw three police cars surrounding a black BMW at the university’s entrance and a huge number of boxes of food products, believed to be from Malaysia, seized by the police.

It is unknown if this case is related to another food import offense made by a 47 year old Singaporean two hours earlier on the same day.
