[h=1]A Mother’s plea to the Singapore Judge: He is still a child[/h]admin / 1 day ago June 19, 2015

Amos, having been sent to remand on 3 occasions, has been in Changi Prison for a total of 39 days, since his arrest on 29th March till his sentence on 23rd June 2015.

Attending court hearings, discussing issues with lawyers, giving statements to police, meeting up with counsellors and social workers, being interviewed by reporters, having to answer many questions from many people, and many other unexpected happenings, all have been very straining to not only Amos but also all the concerned ones.

Photo from Today

Amos, a 16-year-old blogger, has been posting his thoughts on events in his life freely on various social media sites. Never would he have thought that he could be arrested and charged one day for his work which he has been proudly doing. Neither could he have imagined that he could be punished and ill-treated before he has been sentenced.

I regret to see that the judge appeared to be persuaded by the prosecution to call for an RTC report and thereby placing Amos in another instance of remand. There was no mention of RTC at the earlier hearings as it was evident that his offence does not warrant a consideration of RTC.

Being in remand for an assessment of his suitability for RTC has turned out to be an instance for him to be traumatized (by the strapping to bed for one and a half days).

It seems that the whole trial-sentencing process has been tainted, and Amos has been made to suffer disproportionately for his offence.

The whole matter has affected him to the point that he is suffering from depression and suicidal thoughts.

Amos is merely 16 years old, with many more years to grow up. Whilst he may express himself eloquently, he nonetheless remains a child and would have certain levels of immaturity that regrettably is wholly overlooked in the process.

I humbly urge our Honourable Court to consider giving Amos a fair judgement.

Stay strong young boy, GE VTO PAP is coming and glory to you if PAP become opposition party next.

"Amos Yee is a Political Prisoner of Conscience.".............................

declaration by Amnesty International, with over 7,000,000 members and supporters in the world.

The stated objective of the Amnesty International (AI) is "to conduct research and generate action to prevent and end grave abuses of human rights, and to demand justice for those whose rights have been violated."

With AI behind Amos Yee, the pap cannot even hope to hide their bullying of this 16 year old child. Just like those Burmese generals failing to hide their bullying of Aung San Suu Gyi, the other AI "prisoner of conscience".

Somebody should ask Obama for his opinion about jailing a 16 year old boy for telling the truth about lky.

Yes, 16 years old, he IS a child.
5 years later, it will be all different.....

Forgive Lee Hsien Loong too... mentally and emotionally he's still a child.

Mary Toh merely paraphrased Dowell's earlier letter to Judge Kaur.

Now every parent whose son or daughter is being charged and awaiting sentencing can write public letters to the Courts liao.:D It's called double-mitigation, where defense through the defendant's parent gets a second bite at the mitigation cherry.

I'm awaiting Yang Yin's mother to write a letter to the Court soon.

Yang Yin is not a child. However, he's a dance instructor, and a very good one too. ;)

i agree,PAP should show a hand of leniency, grant a stay of execution, delay his jail sentencing until hes 18,19 years old, after that let the prison sex begin, let the bunghole penetration begin, bring in the gimp!!!!

this whole thing started because Mary Toh , the idiot , reported to the police.
She reaps what she sowed. Till now, she didn't know that Amos' sufferings are all her own doing.

The real problem with her is "inconsistency". Her kind of support for Amos is plain silly, arguing that he is still a child, just like any Ah So. By doing so, isn't she iadmitting that Amos is wrong.

Parents need to be firm and consistent from day one in teaching their child. If she thinks that her child is doing wrong, then she must stop him at the very beginning. Don't ask for leniency only when in deep shit. Since she has failed to stop him from day one, then support him all the way. Enlighten him on the fact that what he had got himself into is an honourable and daredevil endeavor. Teach him to be brave and how to win the heart and support of the people by reframing from bitching on trivials or using vulgarities. Be a true martyr and accept the suffering.

I wish that she is the one going through remand and rtc instead of Amos.

Nobody was hurt, harmed, or injured in this case, no property was damaged. The state seems to have nothing else to do and pursue this case with a kid!!! Best is the whole nation just drop the case, put it behind and never bring it up again. What a mess it has become! Just forget it and move on man!

Cheers!

Yes, why can't they just let him go on probation? Whether he agreed to probation or not then or even now, just give him probation and can avoid all this mess and inflicting mental/physical suffering on a boy.

I don't know how the authorities going to deal with this now (that they're involved so deep). I remember when I was that age, and we got into trouble with the law, our parents were the ones who would answer for us, and we'd face their wrath, and whatever action they had in mind. But this case here is somewhat different - because he didn't do nothing wrong! Bad mouthing is normal for a teen! Obscene pics are normal for a kid! In my opinion, I say it is the authorities who have over-reacted to the boy for being a boy!

Cheers!

How to forget when the government want "face " . The government shouldn't have started it in the first place if they know they can't handle Amos . Now the government wants to show sinkies if you fuck around with them this is what they will get ;)

The Chinese tyrants favorite method of 'kill the chicken to warn the monkey'.

Must send a strong signal, must send a strong message. That's why that AWOL doctor got sentenced to 18 months' detention. Nobody fucks with the establishment. ;)

I don't know about this "face" thing - it's not my problem!:D

What I find funny (I am laughing) is they want to show that they can't be fucked around!!! By a kid!!!! The kid isn't even legal to drink beer!!! They (the authorities) fucked themselves up!! They caught themselves stirring a pot of shit, and it gets stinkier the more its stirred!

Cheers!

At around 1:11

After 9 years of incarceation they wanted me to issue a statement, to firstly support the so-called democratic system in Singapore and secondly to renounce politics.
I told them that these two demands are self-contradictory because if there is parliamentary democracy then I don't have to give up politics.

So they said "You must say something to show repentance otherwise Lee Kuan Yew will lose face"

For me this is not a question of pride, it's a question of principle.

In the first place, if a person has to save his face by depriving somebody else of his fundamental rights then that's not a face that's worth saving.
So, the main democratic right is a fundamental constitutional right of the people of Singapore and no one should be deprived of their right and held to ransom to extort statements of repentance and contrition.
Sp the whole thing bogged down to having to issue a statement of repentance which I refused
