[h=1]COMMENTATORS AROUND THE WORLD LAUGH AT SINGAPORE OVER AMOS YEE'S ARREST[/h]
Post date:
3 Apr 2015 - 11:53am

Amos Yee's controversial video has gained much international traction recently. One of the foreign media talking about it is Hongkong radio station, D100. In a captioned photo uploaded on Facebook, D100 wrote that it is a severe injustice that the 17 year old is facing a 3 year jail for merely criticizing Lee Kuan Yew. D100 is also calling for people around the world to stand up for justice:
請不要視而不見,請不要容讓這些不公義的事發生在一個17歲少年身上。
Translation: Please do not see and not understand, do not let injustice happen to this 17 year old.
Most Hongkong commentators also supported the call for Amos Yee's release and condemned the Singapore Government for being too harsh on a 17 year old.
The most popular comment by Hei Yiu NG questioned if the punishment is an overkill.

Translation: "No manners can give you 3 year jail? PRC people who shit around deserve how many years?"
Another popular comment is a photo upload faulting the general mindset of Singapore.

Another commented that speaking truth is not lack of manners.

Other comments generally related the Singapore Government to a dictatorship or a monarchy and treated Lee Kuan Yew like an emperor in China.

Translation: "Young people have courage, if he is wrong, then teach him the right way, and not oppress him by banning speech. This has nothing to do with dictatorship and dynasty, if everyone is supposed to keep and listen to the government, what kind of society are we living in?"

Translation: "Speaking is a crime, is Singapore the new Qin Dynasty?"

One of them aptly pointed out "now we know what kind of democracy Singapore is"

Some Hongkong commentators however disagree, one of them highlighted that Lee Kuan Yew did not put himself in danger during turbulent times so the people can be safe to make irresponsible speech.

Translation: "We must appreciate what our forefathers did for us, Lee Kuan Yew used his entire life to bring Singapore from poverty to prosperity, and even managed to promote racial harmony among the different races. Singapore became a well-governed society, its achievements is recognized internationally and its people are protected. What has this little boy done for Singapore? He has not served his National Service, and enjoyed good education, his parents are also living off the benefits of Lee Kuan Yew, how dare he make such pompous speech?! If you have never contributed, do no criticize, you don't have the right anyway. He should go to poorer countries to experience how fortunate he is to be living in a heaven like Singapore."
Popular US forum Reddit comments generally disagree with Amos's Yee arrest:

AMOS YEE ARRESTED BY POLICE OVER CONTROVERSIAL VIDEO

if this hongkie thinks hongkie justice is better, hongkies wouldn't be whacked senseless by hongkie police in street protests. at least in sg, the sinkie poodles use tremendous restraint and refrain from escalating violence by taking shelter in ambulances.

and in hk, they may even spray pepper mixed with gluey cum on your face.

The Filipino Male Nurse of TTSH, who stirred up racial sentiments is still "under investigation"....where a 17 year old Singaporean...gets arrested immediately.....& lots of comments from their "porlumpars"...including the "holier than thou" VOMIT SINGH...let us watch if his daughters or son don't turn bad...

Spread the whole Amos Yee saga to the rest of the world... PAP has no place to be in the govt in this modern time.

PAP low lifes here.. see what i mean that you bunch of PAP sinkie losers are indeed stupid fucks, especially your behaviour.

I would say to add another 2 years for calling his own mother a bitch on social media.

This fucker is beyond redemption. A secondary school dropout will have no future in today's society.

The whole saga smacks of political manipulation . Amos is just a pawn. He has not done his NS yet. But he sounded as if he has contributed more than lKY and LHL and talk down on the 2. As I said , the most satisfying way to beat LKY is not to rant and rant but to take the task of government and does it better than him.

He is not a dropout. He finished Sec 4. He twigged early on that going to JC is a waste of time if you are not going to Uni. He wants to carve his own way. I say good for him. He is still young enough to make mistakes and recover. This guy is in the mould of Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and Richard Branson. Respect.

The conventional route is for conventional people,. Like you and me.

Hongkies can criticise their leaders freely in the virtual as well as real world. They can even celebrate Deng Xiao Peng's death or predict the downfall of the CCP (Falungong posters in prominent tourist locations have been proclaiming that for a very long time with no arrests).

Errant police officers are charged, no doubt after "unwanted" publicity from the free press. In Sinkieland, those who hide in ambulances are given medals for bravery and Sinkie lawyers do not comment on anything without Gahbrament approval!

Laugh so what? Did Bill Clinton condemn it when he was here? William Hague? Tony Abbott? The most was Abe fell asleep. That didnt send any signal. Where are the sanctions? Where's the UN resolution? Where's the bombing like in Serbia, Kosovo, Libya? Where's the covert action to topple Singapore's leaders like the US did in South America in the 70s and 80s? Where's the allied invasion like with Iraq or Afghanistan? Singapore could be free then right? Look at Iraq post Saddam...look at Afghanistan with the Taliban pushed out. Look no more Gaddafi...

Laughing doesnt help one blood bit. Since 1965, not a single cent of sanctions, not a word of condemnation or a single toppling of government has taken place.

The IO will be well rewarded for his loyalty.

Face it, no sanctions, no condemnation no invasion to free Singapore.

Face it, no sanctions, no condemnation no invasion to free Singapore.

Face it, those who are not prepared to fight for freedom and democracy, do not deserve to have these.

Rowan Atkinson aka Mister Bean helped to push for the repeal of a similar silly law in the UK. He did not kaypoh and try to do the same thing in Russia, Timbuktu, wherever.

I don't expect Vomit Singh to say anything, but what about people like Dick Lee, Lim Kay Tong (they thought he had a conscience until he decided to play LKY in some propaganda movie). What about other establishment figures like Ngiam Tong Dow, Walter Woon, Tommy Koh? What's the Law Society's Thio Use Less going to say?

Stop talking nonsense or the Sinkie Polis will prosecute you for urinating in a public convenience.

they should arrest the 20 person who made the police report

APRIL 5 — A 16-year-old boy uploaded a video on YouTube last week. In it he rants and reports on various observations about the state of Singapore, its political leaders and draws thoughtless comparisons between said leaders and religious icons.

Already, this is content that is designed to get people talking.

Except this isn’t any ordinary week and this isn’t any ordinary political leader.

This is the week a nation is in mourning and the leader in question is the recently deceased, much admired Lee Kuan Yew.

So, it comes as no surprise that the video spread like wildfire — and it wasn’t long before the outraged comments converted into outraged citizens reaching out to their friendly neighbourhood policeman to register their offence at this character whose video they were forced to watch by virtue of it simply existing.....

..... I am not interested in wondering aloud about why Amos Yee did it — what his motivations were, his mental state (which seems like an impolite thing to wonder about strangers, leave alone 16-year-old strangers).

What I am fascinated by is the motivations of the individuals who were so aggrieved by an amateur video made by a child that they would resort to relying on the resources of the state to correct this perceived injustice.

It reeks of the pitfalls of a “nanny” state — where every upset needs to be soothed over by the government.

Or as Singaporean playwright Alfian Sa’at eloquently summed it up:

It reminds me of the auntie who sees the hunky neighbour opposite her block walking around naked in his own house, takes out her binoculars for a closer look, gets all hot and

bothered, still continues watching until the guy puts on some clothes, and then calls the police to complain that someone was flashing his private parts at her.

I agree. It’s simple. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it.
