Of the 587 professionals, managers and executives helped by NTUC's U PME Centres, 43 per cent sought help on job placement while another 36 per cent sought assistance on job protection.
SINGAPORE: Close to 600 professionals, managers and executives (PMEs) sought help at NTUC’s U PME Centres since they were set up in early 2014. Most of them were looking for help on job placement and protection.
Of the 587 PMEs that visited the centres, 43 per cent sought assistance on job placement, while 36 per cent needed help on job protection, the Labour Movement said in a statement on Thursday (Apr 2).
To find out more about PMEs' perception towards their skill-sets and job mobility, the PME Unit also conducted a survey last year, with 894 working PMEs participating.
According to the survey, six in 10 respondents said they encountered difficulties with their current skill-set and knowledge at their current jobs. The top three challenges identified were IT challenges, lack of relevant training or industry specific skill-set, and the need to constantly upgrade their skills due to changes in regulations or market conditions.
To support PMEs, NTUC said its upcoming PME Week, from Apr 7 to 11, will see training workshops on negotiation techniques, personal branding and effective project management.
"Very soon, PMEs can look forward to having more career-related training options in the heart of the Central Business District (CBD) offered through our U PME Centres," said Mr Patrick Tay, Director of the NTUC PME Unit.
"This will be done in partnership with e2i and CaliberLink, and the programmes are targeted to work in alignment with the Government's training initiatives like the SkillsFuture funding," he added.
