it's not a bad idea for the pap to hold a by-election. test the waters before the general election. if they expect a big victory there, then it could provide a significant morale boast for them.

a defeat is unimaginable devastating to them. if they win by a close margin, it would be damn demoralizing. if it is an expected win margin, it is just much ado about nothing. if they want a significant morale boast, they have to win big like above 70%. think they are ball-less, so even if they believe they can win big, they wouldn't hold the by-election.

People associate Singapore's progress to PAP. With or without Ah Gong, people are still gonna vote for PAP. The other political parties collectively contributed zilch to Singapore's progress. And people are mindful of that when they decide who to vote for.
