Of the 400 homeless families helped by the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) from 2011 to 2013, three out of four had sold their HDB flats to settle financial woes.

Some had cashed out their flats out for a profit.

But they all realised later they could not afford another place and turned to the Government for help.

This issue resonated with The New Paper on Sunday's Heartland Auntie. She had a similar experience in 2002 after a failed business venture.

But on the advice of her husband, she did not sell off the flat.

She speaks to welfare workers and grassroots leaders about the issue.

ask you back lor.. should the familee that frittered away billions just for her gambling habit be allowed to run the cunthree?

one example is he screwed with his own money and the other like kong hee, no fark care as if there is no tomorrow with limitless cash to gamble.

The opposition would probably come up with something as harebrained as giving them a free home each, spitting in the face of citizens like us who are prudent with managing our finances.

Let's broaden the scope of this issue.

If the government changes tack and allows the full withdrawal of all CPF funds at 55, should people who fritter it all away be helped or should they be left to starve to death?

Starve to death.

Or they can approach their local RC, temple/church/mosque or secular NGOs for social assistance.

when ever gahment helped? you borned ytd? you dont know their policy is you die your biz? only morons will ask this type of question and answer themselves.

that why i stayed away from FAP Ibs.

why not ??............PAP farkers lost tens of billions and we're still paying them millions every year........

Depends on how the profits was frittered.

If on gambling table RWS /MBS , she should claim back the lost of gov since they allowed casinos to be operating here.

If due to business - gov should loan her $ to buy another home, becos gov encourage entrepreneurship and jobs all given to FT.

Proof that all those talks about how PAP policies benefited Singaporeans because your property has appreciated several folds is bullshit. It's useless unless you can cash out and when you have no choice but have to, you're caught homeless.

First ask why they have to sell off their homes.

It's high time to change the laws such that HDB flats cannot be sold. You can upgrade or downgrade, but you cannot sell it. If you emigrate to shit holes such as New Zealand, you must return your HDB flat to the PAP government without compensation of any kind.

Should doctors treat reckless drivers wounded in an accident? The answer is obviously no! Same as homeless people you see. It is a moral hazard.
