The Singapore Police Force has issued a statement clarifying that the distribution of flyers is not illegal.

The clarification comes after a member of the public made a police report about the PAP activists having distributed the anti-WP flyers in Aljunied GRC.

The police report had been made as there were some similar instances in the past when the police had taken action against those distributing anti-PAP flyers.

Police explained that “In consultation with the Attorney-General’s Chambers on the police report made on the distribution of flyers at Aljunied Group Representation Constituency, it has been determined that there is no offence disclosed.”

They added that "The distribution of flyers in itself is not an offence in Singapore."

Earlier, it had already been pointed out that there were many possible laws which the flyer distribution could have contravened.

For example, the photos uploaded by Victor Lye showed that there were groups of people, at least 7 or 8 going around door to door to distribute the flyers.

Some had questioned whether this would be considered an unlawful assembly or procession as there were over 5 people involved.

This was raised as SDP members had previously been charged and convicted for this in 2010 when they were handing out political flyers. (IN 2010, AN SDP MEMBER SERVED A WEEK IN JAIL FOR HANDING OUT POLITICAL FLYERS)

It was also raised that there were several other potential laws that were breached including the parliamentary elections act as it prohibits political campaigning outside of the campaigning period.

Parallels were also drawn to the time police investigations were launched in 2010 into "poison pen letters" in Sengkang under sedition.

However it appears that despite all these potential breaches, the police are saying that the PAP activists did not break any laws.

While some may cry foul that there is some kind of double standard in place. The positive thing this is that it has clearly been stated that what the PAP activists did was perfectly legal.

Given this, there would be no reason for any action to be taken against others who may wish to do similar flyer distributions in PAP wards.

Excellent news ...now the opposition parties can launch their attacks on PAP before the election.

The AG is going to be scolded by Pinky when that happens.

Yeah the opposition should do the same since nothing illegal to distribute anti other party flyers.

Another fine example of profound interpretation of the law that's reminisce of the power classic ruling regarding teleportation into polling station

" distribution of flyers is not illegal. "

nothing said about content.
but if oppsotion were to distrubte flyers, then content will be looked at?

if not, can someone distrubte flyers saying : FOOk PAP: ?

Walking into a polling station is not the same as loitering just outside the polling station. There is also no law against election candidates standing inside a polling station. You jealous that PAP has better legal advise and they were vindicated in a fair trial?

Then hire a better lawyer instead of always getting that bipolar Ah Neh!!!

Now I know why PAP demolished and extinct the Hillview Ave Est and dispersed the voters because of this shameful act from Wooden and KFC Tan.

Wining the ward back from opposition with such deceitful act from Wooden is shameful to him and the kangaroo court.

Time will come you will abandon PAP and exiled together with LHL soon.
