I honestly do not understand why people complain about NS. It was the one period of my life when I had ZERO worries.

In school and uni, you worry about exam results. When you embark upon a career, every mistake you make can have far reaching consequences and affect earning power.

However, for the 2 glorious NS years, you don't have to give a shit about anything. As long as you don't end up in detention which can result in your time in uniform being extended, nothing else matters.

Actually road sweepers are already skilled in their jobs. NSMen still need to go BMT, later NCO, later Unit. Long way to go before become a fully operational and professional soldier.

Best solution is to peg ministers' pay to cleaners, security guards or NSmen. 50 times the average of the 3 listed is the max I suggest. That will get the ministers to use their brains instead of leaving it in the freezer.

Or perhaps, allow me to amend it to: That the President, Ministers, Senior Ministers of State, Ministers of State, Permanent Secretaries , judicial officers and senior civil servants ( and all those paid by Singapore) salary and compensation be pegged to the average salary for NS men and officers (if a private is $480 and a 2LT is $1,500, the average is $990), and that the maximum be no more than fifty times of the said average (or $49,500 per month or $594,000 per year, which seems fair and just).

OCT in OCS already getting $900.

When I was a recruit, it was about $90 a month, OCT was about $400, as a LTA $680.
