The ISIL (Daesh) militants have launched an attack on an airbase used by US troops in the restive Iraqi province of al-Anbar.

At least seven members of the group, who were using a military vehicle, attacked al-Asad air base on Friday, an Iraqi army colonel and an Iraqi Defense Ministry official said.

As many as 300 US security forces are reportedly training local security forces at the air base.

All of the militants were killed in a counterattack by Iraqi forces.

"The Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) supported by Coalition surveillance assets defeated the attack (on the Al-Asad air base in western Iraq), killing all eight attackers," a US military statement said.

The attack on the base came a day after the militants launched an onslaught on the nearby town of al-Baghdadi.

Gunmen belonging to ISIL “launched an attack yesterday (Thursday) afternoon, targeting the police headquarters of Al-Baghdadi and two government buildings in the town center," an Iraqi lieutenant colonel said.

Another Iraqi colonel said that Iraqi forces along with tribal forces succeeded to repel the militants from most neighborhoods of al-Baghdadi on Friday, adding that the militants are still in control of some buildings and positions in the center of the town.

The ISIL started its campaign in Iraq in early June 2014. The heavily-armed militants took control of Mosul before sweeping through parts of the country’s Sunni Arab heartland.

The militants have been carrying out horrific acts of violence, including public decapitations, against all Iraqi communities such as Shias, Sunnis, Kurds and Christians.

Iraqi soldiers, police units, Kurdish forces, Shia volunteers and Sunni tribesmen have succeeded in driving ISIL out of some areas in Iraq.

ISIS won't dare to mess with the SAF. We have highly educated generals like him to lead our fighting troops. Although General Ng has already retired from the military, the SAF has several more equally capable generals to hold the fort.

Since his enlistment in 1979, LG Ng Yat Chung, aged 45, has served the SAF with distinction. As Chief of Defence Force since 1 April 2003, LG Ng laid the transformational blueprint for the 3rd Generation SAF and demonstrated bold leadership in its execution. He has been instrumental in transforming the SAF as a networked, knowledge-based force by driving close integration between the Army, Navy and Airforce, developing new operational concepts and assimilating cutting-edge technologies in building up the SAF's new force structure.

During his tenure as Chief of Defence Force, LG Ng has significantly strengthened the SAF's full spectrum capabilities to meet new security challenges such as terrorism and low intensity conflicts, effectively prosecute peacetime operations and raise the SAF's capabilities for conventional operations.

SAF (ala C3PO in Return of the Jedi): We Surrender!!!

I wish I was at this fight. Its Dien Bien Phu all over again. Every single able bodied person in the base is going to have to grab a rifle and fight. Give me a bunker, a M-16/AR-15 and all the ammo I can use, and I will be a happy camper.

Fuck ISIS, they sure dare not mess with our netizens.
