Guess the Race: Yoga in the Snow at -30ºC!

Actually drinking alcohol does not raise the core temperature of the body. It just makes you feel warm. I think to stay alive in the cold, you're better off drinking a cup of hot tea.

Alcohol makes you happy and your surroundings bright and beautiful. ;)

Coffee, tea or cocoa cannot do that.

Alcohol is actually very dangerous in exposure to cold weather. Here's why:

Alcohol causes peripheral vasodilation, that is, opening of vessels in the skin causing blood to rush to the periphery. It gives you the sensation of warmth because of skin flushing, but it reduces core temperature, since blood is shunted from internal organs to the skin. Second, it causes increased heat loss from the skin to the surrounding air through conduction and radiation since the temperature differential between warm skin and cold air is now greater. End result: hypothermia.

This is the reason why you see so many vodka-induced deaths of homeless drunks in Moscow every winter (and in old pre-Republican Beijing).

Absolutely agree, I am with you on this. ;)

i've been up to elevations above 10,000 ft. for skiing during winter and have seen ang mo stripped down to underwear and sometimes nothing for sun-bathing. if there is sun, the reflection of sunlight on snow and ice can burn your skin.
