it's ok to demand for high availability in service levels, e.g. 99.999% to 99.9999%. it's ludicrous to demand for perfect service levels at 100%. it only proves that sinkies are a demanding lot, which is understandable given the very high levels of service that's being dished out to them, but it does not prove that the pap is a disgrace. in fact, it shows that the pap is being graceful in taking the challenge head-on by acceding to demands for higher levels of service. at 99.9999999999%, sinkies will still kpkb. that's a fact of life in sg. if there's a god and even though he's perfect, sinkies will still kpkb, and he will also find sinkies too perplexing an enigma to deal with. :*:

Last week I saw a drain clogged with rubbish/debris and flow of water was impeded. Small issue if no huge downpour. But if heavy thunderstorm comes, the debris will choke the whole drain and there will be flooding.

I called NEA and they quickly cleared the rubbish and debris.

An oversight by NEA and drain clog may be a small matter to you. But if allowed to perpetuate, it's a matter of time before a flood occurs.

Same with so many pap mistakes

No need to call the NEA for such a minor chore. Call Anus Koh, he'll be ready to help.

We should have more 'ponding' incidents. Singapore can transform into the Venice of the East. Think of the awesome revenue from tourism. With all that additional money, the Tourism Board can have plenty more self-praise gala dinners within one calendar year.

Singapore has always run very efficiently. The reason why people have the impression that things have got worse is because expectations have risen and social media spreads the word very quickly.

In the old days glitches would go unnoticed by all those who were not personally affected.

Yes in the old days they would try to hide it, same, same even today. However the disruptions of today are bigger & affecting thousands to hundred of thousands. So how do you expect to be world class.

For example in the old days MRT breakdowns were rare because competent people were put in charge but nowadays breakdowns are becoming routine. The reason is pretty obvious. The PAP started to put incompetent "friends" & "relatives" into the system. If you look at the background of Ms.Saw you will find she lacks the skill set to run a transport system. She is rumoured to be a good friend of Ho Ching & maybe that is why she got the job? Even our current PM in there because of his connections & not his ability.

If you look behind all those GLCs having problems you will find "friends" & "relatives" running the business. As long as the PAP is in power don't expect things to improve because there is a new generation of sons, daughters, friends that expect to be taken care of

These are minor issues. All countries face similar problems periodically. The Swiss and HK bourses have suffered technical glitches in recent years too.

Very serious, according to MAS.

"SINGAPORE: The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has instructed the Singapore Exchange (SGX) to conduct a thorough review of its systems following a delay in the start of stock market trading till 12.30pm on Wednesday (Dec 3).

"MAS has registered its disappointment and concerns with SGX over the delayed opening of its securities market caused by a software defect. The lapse is unacceptable, coming within weeks of the recent power breakdown on Nov 5," a spokesperson for the central bank said in a statement.

"MAS has instructed the SGX Board and CEO to do a thorough review to address the shortcomings that led to the lapse," the spokesperson said, adding the central bank will not hesitate to take supervisory actions against the bourse operator if necessary.

Mr David Gerald, President and CEO of the Securities Investors Association (Singapore), called on SGX to address the problem urgently.

“It is not good for the confidence in the market as it appears to be happening one too many times. Investors are in a quandary. SGX needs to address this problem urgently to avoid a recurrence, especially in this period of low market volume," he said.

"There has been much investment on the trading system and one should, therefore, be confident of not expecting frequent computer glitches,“ Mr Gerald added.

SGX said earlier on Wednesday that it will delay the start of stock market trading to "enable member firms to complete client position reconciliations, and rectify any errors in the end-of-day processing for 1 Dec on the securities client-accounting system hosted by SGX on behalf of member firms".

The latest trading disruption follows an incident on Nov 5 when a power supply fluctuation caused trading in stocks and derivatives to be halted for more than two hours.

The trading of stocks on SGX usually takes place from 9am to 5pm."
