The scourge of rats is on the rise here, and rodent-related complaints are up by as much as 30 per cent. Pest busters say construction sites are chiefly responsible for this. But also to blame are poor housekeeping habits and that neighbourhood cats are no longer catching rats.

The three top pest control companies say the number of reports has risen between 20% and 30%.

In the first nine months this year, 2,490 reports have been received.

This is just SIX short of the total 2,496 received the whole of last year.
