There is a rampant practice by many unscrupulous small businesses in having same company name but different registration numbers with the clear motive of frustrating customers who intend to claim compensation, etc. The business owner just closesdown and re-register the same company name with another registration number. Legally it will be another legal entity so the rogue trader or contractor cannot be taken to task. Also OCBC continue to allow transactions even it get notified by claimant as bank only recognises the company even though its latest registration number is different than that when it first opened its bank account. Could it be that bank is turning a blind eye? Any comment from MAS would be appreciated.
Why are innocent parties not getting the protection they deserve???
