Am jobless and over 40 of age. Thinking of some small business to do as tired of sending all resumes with no reply.

Doing own business is the only way out but do not have big capital and special skill.

Any kind bros out there who have some experiences with this trade on how to start can share some...

Do not mind the hard/dirty work and the long hours.. As long as can make a monthly income of 3-4k will be very much happy to support the family.

During economic downturn, businesses like these will face difficulties because people will cut back by doing their own washing and polishing. These are things that people can do themselves.
You also need to consider your capital costs needed to set up an outlet that is big enough for several cars, or are you planning to go mobile and free-lance?

I have been in Sam's forums for 10 years, and there are very very few people who tok kok and claim that they have a million here and a million there. In fact, I can't even recall any nicknames. Can you recall any?

I've been to some carpark based to see see look look but the problem is if I've 100k to play around that will be easy, I'll go straight to set up one.

I not even have 10k, just hope to get more info before I sell off the house to cash out some $ to start. So the details is very important, what the cost of setup and operations cost for the first 6 mouths and the profits etc...

Try some home base business. Becos if you have less then 10k , probably on the 1st month to the 3rd month , you got no income. U also need to pay rental. You still got to maintain your own lifestyle.

For me , i already started with a Home base business. Rest , it up to you ...where to get cheaper resources for your business.

You got to factor in machinery cost , Labour cost , rental cost ......Frankly speaking , for 10k , i would not ask you to start with something that need huge fix cost !

Be your own boss and destiny !!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know how long you have been searching, but my little advice is to think out of the box.
Think hard about what you really like to do or what you think is really worth doing and try to get into that industry, even if it is not something that you have done previously. Could start as an employee and eventually have your own business.
It could be a rewarding and life chaging move for you.
Don't have too grand ideas or too much desire to make quick money, because this is real life and real life is harsh.

My suggestion would be for you to run a mobile car grooming service and market your services through the forums and perhaps SG Car Mart or print leaflets and put them on the windshield of cars.

Times are really bad and many people are already resorting to selling their cars, some of the rather exotic and others relatively new, given the current scenario, there will be lesser people requiring car grooming services.

If you're running a mobile service, you reduce your overheads in terms of rental exposing yourself to lesser risks. What you do need a one of those pressure washers with their own storage tanks and orbital polisher which runs on 12VDC.

Business is gonna be crawling for starters cause you need exposure, but if it fails, your investments in equipment and advertisement would be lesser then 1K depending on how you do it. Most of which can be recycled for your own use.

I used to know a guy on mobile car polish business. After getting to know him and chat up on his business, he feedback that the biggest problem he has is hiring. The business is small and it does not justify him for foreign workers, while the locals considered this to be hard work and shunted the job.

Eventually he folded the business because it ended up with him doing everything by himself.

So if you can solve the hiring problem, there is actually market for this.
