SINGAPORE - Animal rights activist Louis Ng (CEO of ACRES : Animal Concerns Research and Education Society) has joined the People's Action Party (PAP) and will help Manpower Minister Tan Chuan-Jin at the Kembangan-Chai Chee ward, in the Marine Parade GRC.

This has got to be the ultimate hypocrisy of 2014.

In 2002, Vivienne Balakrishnan was culling cats in a misguided knee-jerk reaction to SARS. It was later disclosed cats cannot transmit the SARS virus. Thousands to cats were put to sleep for nothing.

Animal lovers called PAP cat murders. ACRES also "gently admonished" the PAP policy of cat culling.

To this date, the PAP culls dogs and cats without first attempting to find them a shelter or an adoptee.

Why do you think animal welfare groups like ACRES, Cat Welfare Society, have their hands full of cat and dog cases? Because AVA, at the behest of PAP, still culls animals with reckless abandon in response to even the most frivolous complaints by intolerant residents who feel that all animals except their own children are somehow unclean and must be eliminated.

Yet, today, the head of ACRES joins PAP - the very organization that puts to sleep tens of thousands of strays per year.

Many of these NGOs and civil society groups are infested with PAP supporters or at least sympathizers. There are plenty of them across the spectrum.

Don't be blinded by the seemingly noble cause which they stand for.

Civil society in Singapore has been hollowed out. There is no real activist movement, only niche groups clinging to their pet causes. Watch out for AWARE. As long as they are around, Women's Charter will be here to stay.

AWARE in its current state is still alright. Watch out for the day when the PAP, in an effort to chase votes from women and feminists, set up some department or ministry that's dedicated to women's rights. When that happens, men are second class citizens.

It already happened in Australia, Sweden, Canada and the USA.

I think there is typo error. I think you mean, "Louis is only interested in publicity using the dolphins."

Many years back, a group of JC kids invited them to give a talk on animal welfare. They wanted to charge a fee. That said a lot on their sincerity in fighting for animal welfare.

All the "animals" will vote for him....60% "animals"....he can start culling them....ha ha ha ha was reading the interview he did, not a word, on how he is going to serve people, their CPF concern, their cost of living concern, their day to day living concern...all he talk was, on animals.....then, the 60% "animals" must vote for him....
