Read a report in yesterday's ST about a gang killing.
A gang set upon an unarmed individual sitting with his gf near Central Square about 2 years ago and beat him and eventually killed him. This individual was described as a "rival" in the report, but the report did not elaborate in what way. What was certain was that he was with his gf and he was unarmed.
The perpetuators got sentences of several years jail and several strokes of the cane.
Why shouldn't they get the death penalty? Their victim died after he was deliberately and intentionally beaten, didn't he? Who's to be accountable to the victim's family and loved ones? Was the killing accidental? Was the killing unintentional? Was it due to carelessness, neglect, insanity?
