Fraudulent Charity Arms of Religious bodies

Religious groups do charity work to get tax breaks. All of them.

Getting the tax breaks is not the real reason to engage in charity work. When an organisation collects millions from their members, certain part of that collection must be used to fund charity work but in reality, a huge chunk can be re-routed to certain individuals. By cooking the books, certain individuals having a hand in the charity will say the money is used for this and that charity but who knows?

As long as the members do not complain, all will be cosy and rosy. How do they know what amount is used for charity and how much is re-routed? It is more like pulling wool over the eyes of the members who are told their pastors are kind hearted souls. Just like the Madoff guy who could hoodwink investors for years because he was seen as a good investment banker on the surface but underneath that demeanour, he was just a crook.

Remember also that religion is used within the US bible belt as means of papering over the atrocities committed by Israel.

The more scientifically advanced society has become, the more religion is incompatible with society's progress.

In Singapore the management of charity somehow is a minefield and religious charities are a double minefield. We can't seem to get our charities straight.

We cannot get our Central Provident Fund straight...how could we get our charities straight?? for we are so charitable people, we donate yOUR money to the government, who keeps telling us, over & over again.... it is yOUR MONEY...yOUR MONEY...60% just don't get it??

Exactly. Look at the Scandinavian countries where religion is slowly dying. They have become a better and happier society. Look at London in comparison. islam huge with new mosques are built faster than you can say Allah. Go to certain places and you will spot bearded residents with skull caps than in Karqchi. Now they have their own home grown fanatics. Everyone one of the nutjobs that bombed their subway were born in the UK.

The Brits got to reap what they had sowed. They allowed mass immigration of indians, pakis and other africans into UK for years. Today, these muslim fanatics even put up signs in the streets telling dogs loving Brits not to walk their pets in certain parts of UK.

Would sinkie land face the same situation one day when foreigners could tell sinkies to stay away from certain streets in sinkie land because pork eaters are not welcome? The situation in UK is a lesson about a society splitting apart.

Agree. The Brits still cannot or scared to address the fundamental issues of migration and integration. Because the voting margins has been razor thin for the last 2 decades, both Labour and the Tories do not want to lose the ethnic bloc.

Totally agree with you. Unbridled immigration and the govt does not impose standards of conduct. Standards of conduct including respect for others and the decency to keep extreme views out of the public sphere.

Once a person accepts admittance to a country, there should be a law to drop their former baggage in their old country. Netherlands was the first to act followed by France. But it is going to a journey.

Singapore on the other hand gone the other way fully supported by the courts and even Ministers. Remember Romeo. Shanmugam and the Indian family that was asked to stop cooking curry a few days week to placate an Ah Tiong family.

Interesting comment but abit simplistic - the location of Heathrow next to predominantly bayi area as Hounslow and Southall has led to the services there being led by them - did you not notiice the number of Polish and Lithuanian staff - they are also there and now replacing the sedentary Indian staff. Ask yourself why not many Bangladeshis working there. But go to East. London like Tower Hamlets and you will see almost all shops from Brick. Lane upwards to Whitechapel run by Banglas - why? Because they are the dominant Asian immigrant community. Look at Gatwick and Stansted airports - how many bayis there? How many South Asians there? Go to South London and you will see lots of Polish shops now almost as if you are in Warsaw.

The problem with the first wave of Asian immigrants has been that they were brought over post WW2 from newly founded Indian Pakistan and later Bangladesh. The East Afrivan Asians arrived after Idi Amin kicked them out. This wave have had kids and the kids got stuck between two very different cultures and phenomenons. At home is strictly Asian and step out the door and it's white British. Over time they collided and somehow going to British schools and picking up accents had eased the integration woes. This generation has now come into the fore with their own kids and they have less of an issue with integration as their parents already have been through it and can provide a balanced perspective. Bear in mind that the waves around the 50s were not necessarily the most educated as they were brought over to work in the factories and help rebuild Britain.

The waves of refugees in the late 80s and 90s changed the landscape dramatically as then the Somalians started arriving and the Asian immigrants could not really accept encroachment into their towns of these newcomers who were right off the boat and had no sense of British-Asian cultures. Then the doors were open wider and the East Europeans started arriving and then it started all over. The British and their South Asian counterparts had a common denominator of Language with all the bells and whistles of regional accents even within the boroughs of London.

The one sticking issue has been the Pakistanis as they have probably had it worse - literally whole villagers uprooted themselves and landed in the UK with huge communities heading towards the Midlands and North England to places like Bradford Manchester and Birmingham. Along with the tradition of forced/arranged marriages, came the imams from Pakistan and they have used common religion as the means to assert influence and control - in the 80s imams were notoriously for creating tensions - These imams cited it as the "duty" to convert and impregnate Sikh girls - but the real battle was for the very lucrative heroin trade in these cities.

It's a lot more complexed than just bayis taking white jobs and Muslims turning into jihadists. One thing is for sure - the British intelligence is not naive and they have an excellent network that keeps tabs on all the gangs and the major players - the jihadists cells since the subway bombings are not under the radar. It's just a very different means of combating terrorism.

That incident was a direct intrusion on the Singaporean way of life.

And our minister actually sided with the foreigners against our own locals.

This story was revealed as a success story of resolving neighbourhood disputes by a Ministry official. Then all hell broke lose when it hit the press. The staff in question then said that it was what the Indian neighbours agreed to and then you realised that you dealing small minded people. Shanmugam stepped and supported the staff that handled it. I heard even cabinet ministers were appalled. I was told that steps will be taken behind the scene to address this injustice.
