Round 2 - Pay raise, special bonus for about 23,000 nurses

http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/pay-raise-special-bonus/1298838.html

SINGAPORE: About 23,000 nurses in public healthcare institutions and Intermediate and Long-Term Care (ILTC) institutions supported by the Ministry of Health (MOH) can expect their monthly pay to increase by up to 20 per cent over two years.

A Nurse Special Payment will also be made every December starting this year. For 2014 and 2015, this payment will be 0.5 months of the base salary.

These changes are part of the 15 recommendations the National Nursing Taskforce has submitted to the Health Ministry to enhance the growth, professional development and recognition of nurses. The taskforce, which was set up in 2012 to review and chart the future direction of the nursing profession, had all of its 15 “wide-ranging” recommendations accepted by Health Minister Gan Kim Yong on Wednesday (Aug 6).

With these changes, more Enrolled Nurses - nurses who are trained at the Institute of Technical Education - will have the opportunity to be upgraded at polytechnics to become Registered Nurses. The part-time bridging course, currently offered at Nanyang and Ngee Ann Polytechnics, is for those who did not meet the academic requirement in their NITEC nursing course and would like to enrol in nursing diploma courses.

Under the taskforce's recommendations, the GPA criteria of 2.8 for this course will be removed and nurses can use at least three years of post-enrollment nursing work as well as an employer's testimonial to move on to become a Registered Nurse.

round 3 - Raise of up to 12% for Home Team officers, with sign-on bonuses of up to S$30,000

http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/raise-of-up-to-12-for/1298802.html

SINGAPORE: More than 18,000 Home Team officers will receive salary increases ranging from 5 to 12 per cent this month, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced on Wednesday (Aug 6).

Uniformed Home Team officers from the Singapore Police Force, Singapore Civil Defence Force, Singapore Prison Service and Central Narcotics Bureau, will receive an increase of between 10 and 12 per cent in monthly pay, the MHA said. Officers from the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority will receive an increase of 7 per cent, while officers in the Home Team Specialist Scheme will receive an increase of 5 per cent.

These pay increments will take effect from Aug 1, the MHA said.

The Singapore Police Force will also introduce sign-on bonuses of between S$10,000 (for Corporals) and S$30,000 (for Sergeants) for new police officers who join them from Aug 1, the MHA said. Singapore Civil Defence Force, Singapore Prison Service and Central Narcotics Bureau recruits joining at the rank of Sergeant will receive a sign-on bonus of S$10,000.

Those joining the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority at the rank of Sergeant will get a sign-on bonus of S$8,000.

They bringing the stupidity of the 60% to a new level, they are rewarding people, that cannot make clear decisions, at a time of crisis like a riot. Fortunately, they were just drunk Indian workers, what if they were, terrorists link, incited riots? what will happen? lives, properties will be lost. By the way, we are paying in terms of taxes, for the damaged , destroyed police vehicles..etc & we now paying pay increase for a JOB WELL DONE!

How stupid, can we get?

I dunno the mata increment policy but the nurses salary increment are funded by MOH to $1600 for enrol nurse. Only pink IC holders are entitle so hospitals now must find $$ to match foreign nurse to the new local nurse new base salary in order not to upset the balance. This extra cost will certainly be pass down to the patients bill.
