Little India Riots COI - the mildest report ever

The COI tuned out to be such a dud after bluster and fury during the early days of hearing. Key points to note

1) "Pro-Social Persons" - like the Mas Selamat Report where the term "confluence of factors" was coined, the consistency has been maintained.

2) SPF got green light to increase manpower and equipment

3) Poor communication was the main factor for the riots.

4) Tanglin Commander Lu had some light criticisms but the senior brass were spared.

5) SPF was found to be effective - (forget, the burn of vehicles, the damage etc)

8) The bulk of the report covered the chronology of events. If this appeared as an appendices, very little was said.


In conclusion one can surmise that the PM and his wife visiting the Police post and breaking bread with the officer shortly after the riots must have signalled to the COI members that all is well.

Frankly the state could have saved a fortune by asking Leong Sze Hian to present his findings.

Exactly. 23 emergency vehicles were damaged, 23 SPF Officer and 12 SCDF officers injured. Thats serious. To get an independent view and not to neuter the COI anyway, that visit should not have taken place.

Feeling sorry for COI members. They had 7 recommendations, report looked rather light so they added one more and I had a good laugh - To encourage dormitory management to encourage grocery vendors to set up stalls within dormitories so that the workers can get supplies there and no need to go to Little India.
