PRC has made much improvement in technological know-how and her economy has grown tremendously. She will keep on improving and getting wealthier each day, but there is one area where PRC should be paying more attention to - human rights. Despite her economic success, the successful and wealthy and their families are leaving for US, Canada, Australia to seek happier lives. This area of people's lives and freedoms should not be neglected as it will lead towards disgruntlement and dissent in the society will further spiral into chaos and anarchy, something PRC does not need after having gained so much in the last few decades.

At the present time, USA is way ahead in technology and is able to produce higher end products, military being right on top. But apart from these, USA's biggest sales comes from day-to-day products like Coca Cola, McDonald's, Kellogg's Cornflakes, Campbell's Soups, Quaker Oats, Oreos, Marlboros and Hollywood movies. China, starting from lower down the economic ladder is able to fill in the niche with cheaper labour and hence many MNCs have relocated their factories there. PRC will be making more and more stuff for the world's consumers.

Singapore is a small little Peesai and will just flow along with the region's trends. She had a headstart compared to the region's countries, but that lead is shortening and the advantage will soon be levelled. To maintain the lead in this economic game, better hope for her neighbours to be corrupt and/or inefficient, because once they are neck-to-neck and level, Peesai won't last for long. Better not to rest.

I am unable to provide a sound answer to your question, I am not an economist, or a sociologist. However, I have an opinion - with the exception of Japan, Singapore, and some part of China, it is unlikely most Asian countries, or more accurately societies will ever rise above their present state of squalor to become "first world" standards. Reason is - Asian Values. Many Asian societies are reluctant to change from their "traditional' ways and their existing social order(s) to make way for modernisation. There are many areas, like women's rights and equality, religious beliefs (or superstition). China underwent Communism which rid her of many medieval ways and paved way for economic progress leading towards social progress. We know that China being a big country, this process will not reach every corner of the country, much of the interior hinterland remain poor and backward. Japan, although steeped in Japanese culture was totally open to modern technology when Admiral Perry White first visited Nippon and the Japs soon were aping every western country especially in engineering, and to a lesser extent, fashion. The only thing the Japs rejected that was foreign was religion. Singapore, basically, we grew up with lots of British influence (everyone middle aged person and above has watched Star Soccer when young and listened to the Cliff Richard, Tom Jones).

Time to change - forever? Never? Unless ............... What is needed is some kind of mental revolution or awakening, just like what happened in Europe after the Dark Ages. Evidently, it was a religious movement - the birth of Protestantism that started the questions of the established order and other established beliefs that started the changes leading to the Age of Enlightenment, Reasoning, discovery.

im not sure if communism was the cure for China or rather a bizarre phase the chinese went thru....and sun yat sen was father of modern china....in either way,most of ur theory is false as the yellow part of asia seems to have developed a propensity for enriching themselves...namely the japs,koreans,taiwanese,hongkies,PRCs,sinkies and malaysian chinese and indonesian chinese.....we can conclude that this is due to our money grubbing nature....remember japs are also highly discriminatory against women,so yeah wealth can be attained without adopting the so called western ideals that u worship...and i dunno about everyone having listened to cliff richard and what not,because overwhelming of the older sinkie generations i believe are dialect speakers and very rarely indulge in western culture....

In any case, I wish to highlight a certain aspect during communist rule in China that they eradicated - feet binding among women and concubines, that is one good thing communism did for China. Anyways, that is now in the past.

The yellow race has not known peace and stability for a long time, and hence they depended on one thing for assurance and security - money. That is why our race amassed loads of money where they got the chance. Among us, there are some who are more rational and peace loving than others, there are criminal types, noble and righteous ones too. Its a society, there will be good, bad, and ugly ones.

Not everyone was "western" educated, but the generation before us, who were young adults during the fifties, sixties and seventies already had a good dose of western culture and influence. There were local artistes who sang and recorded western songs. If you look back, there were locals like Susan Lim and The Crescendoes, October Cherries. I can't remember most of the names, but I remember watching Talentime as a primary school boy and local participants sang Engelbert Humperdink (spl?), and other western songs. Of course there were those who were more inclined towards Asian artistes like Wong Sar and Ya Fong and Hog Kong songstresses.

The Jap really embraced western technology but managed to retain their cultural identity and in many ways heritage. It is in the area of engineering and technology that they really rose fast and in some ways surpassed their teachers. Today, more than half of the top 10 automobiles in USA that are rated green and eco-friendly are Japanese makes! And Honda is the world's largest motorcycle and engine manufacturer! And its founder, Sochiro Honda never went to engineering school!

that peasants' support is a bullshit myth. before the Communist's victory, they killed the landlords in their occupied areas and forcibly seized the lands. that forced the peasants to stand on their side hence they were chained to the war chariots of the Communists to become the cannon fodder of war.

One carrier about 5 billion for Nimitz class to 13 billion for Ford class.
Then the aircrafts about 5-8 billions
Lives of about 5000 in carrier cheap and not counted.

DF21D about 4-5 million/per pop . Might well be cheaper. China built good stuff much much cheaper than the West.
Lots of cheaper missiles non DF21D that you assume will sit on ground twiddling thumbs and do nothing.
My bet is that those cheaper missiles will be fired too. Radar might have problem to determine which are cheap missles and which are DF21D\
And all that is needed is just one hit for a carrier and all the planes on it and all the American lives to go with a bang and glug glug glug.
